Ravens' stance on signing QB Lamar Jackson long-term hasn’t changed despite injury
Despite Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson potentially missing the final game of the season due to injury for the second straight year, Baltimore has not changed its stance on wanting to sign him to a long-term deal.www.nfl.com
According to this article by a respected journalist, the Ravens still very much want a deal with Lamar done after the season is over .
What else can they say, really...
To the point of all of this swirling intrigue about Lamar's injury and rehab and who knew what and when, I don't like Mike Preston any more or less than anyone else. I don't read the Fishwrap anymore. What I find interesting about that article and his subsequent "correction," however, is his initial comment that his sources had the Ravens as disatisfied with Lamar's rehab and not doing rehab at the facility. Obviously, we don't know his "source," but I do have a problem with the generalization that MP made it up for clicks. Maybe so, but I just don't really see that. What I see as more likely is that someone spoke to him and at worst he interpreted that to be the case or that someone said directly that. But the fact that there seems to now be some sort of corroboration that there was some dissatisfaction within the organization.
With all that has happened since with JH's statement, Sammy's statement, Lamar's statement, and, frankly, what was said about Roman after that one loss a few weeks back with papers being left around the Castle with "Fire Roman," or whatever that was... there is some shit not straight with this team. And that includes coaching, players, and the FO.
It is in both the team's and Lamar's interest for him to be on the field. Did they both slow/down-play injury reports? Probably. It was probably doubtful that he would be able to play again from both camps from early on because they were the ONLY ones who knew the full extent of the injury, but neither is going to come right out and say that. But there's certainly nothing wrong with the "wait and see" approach.
The problem is that loose lips sink ships. And this is even more true when you throw egos into the mix and social media and aggressive reporters who wanna be first to report instead of accurate (necessarily) in those reports. The most likely explanation in all of this is that it was slow-played, somebody got agitated about something said, there was an attempted "fix" that made things worse... ugh.
My only hope is that they rally, regroup, and get every bit of frustration out by kicking the shit out of the Bungles tomorrow night.
