Lamar Jackson

Regardless of who you think was/is the more valuable QB to the team, 2008 through 2012 were some of the best years to be a Ravens fan, like tons better than the last 5 years.
yes but i'm not so sure you should one should be crediting only Flacco for those yrs. Defensive talent was amazing up until maybe 2012.

That being said defensive talent or not you can't take the playoff success away from him. That being said where was he from 2013-2018.

all of it is speculation at this point

I wouldn't say they are right asses...

Ronnie Stanley
Marlon Humphrey
Marcus Williams
Roquan Smith

even Earl Thomas
Well I did say they were fair but not stupid. Those deals were mostly fair deals for quality players. What Lamar MAY be wanting could be borderline ridiculous. But we really won’t know until it gets done.

My point is this... Flacco had more value tot he TEAM then Lamar has had. Like 2X as much! I know that doesn't really equate to money, but he was better for the Ravens.
Lamar has been THEE team since he got here and single-handedly saved Harbaugh’s ass! I love and respect the shit outta Flacco but I’d love to see Lamar on the same team as Ray and Ed on the other side

2013 pretty much the whole team sucked. Other than 2014 which was good, injured and for the most part playing poorly.

I mean... practical guarantees matter.
Kyler is the perfect example. There's already rumblings of them wanting to move off of him. He's going to miss a decent chunk of 2023, and that team is in the tank right now.
His total contract is $230.5M. If he's not performing, and they want to move on (especially towards the end), I think Ownership might think its kind of a big deal to save the extra $41M or whatever it is.

Practical guarantees exist because, if the player is not performing or can't perform, Ownership isn't going to want to keep paying them. It's how much the player will get before its reasonable that the team will move on. The assumption with all these franchise QB deals is that they always perform well enough to make it through the contract. That's not even close to being true.
You can't make that statement yet, because literally none of these QB contracts have gotten to the point where the team wants to get out. So you can say that they won't, but we just don't know that to be true yet.

I'd love to see one too. Give me our 2012 roster with lamar. We don't win a bowl. Because Lamar isn't gonna pull of a MHM.

Can you imagine Ray Rice and Lamar Jackson? Then give him Q and Torrey?

Confirms what we’ve all been thinking , it’s on Lamar now to stop this bullshit and be reasonable

I mean its not exactly apples to apples, but:
Seahawks wanted out of the most recent deal they did with Wilson, so they traded him. He had a year left.
Derek Carr was cut 10 months into a 3 year deal.
Ryan Tannehill is likely to be replaced 3 years into a 4 year deal.
Carson Wentz was traded away 18 months into a 4 year extension.
Jared Goff was traded away 15 months into a 4 year extension.

Its certainly not a given that any franchise QB that signs an extension is going to play out the deal with that team. As with anything else, it'll depend on how productive they are.

With the exception of Wilson, those are mostly the type of above average QBs that teams used to routinely sign to big money long term deals. The NFL as a whole has moved away from that plan. (That said, none of the contracts look too ugly now. The Seahawks and Eagles got some nice picks. Las Vegas only has $5.6M dead cap from Carr. Tannehill and Goff will probably be retained as their team's best available options.)

Wilson used a top QB, so he's the best comparison for Lamar. Once QBs attain that status there will always be teams willing to give up serious picks to see if they can make him work. Even Wentz, who only really had one great season, and has an injury history, was traded for a 1 and 3 after his massive decline.

Lamar's status as a player who has been mentioned among the MVP favorites at some point in each of the last 4 seasons, would probably have a trade floor somewhere above Wentz, no matter how badly his performance may slide, provided the Ravens act quickly if/when it happens.

Goff also had elite QB status
