Eric said we have QBs in our top 31 on the big board. If that's the truth... his implication was that we could take a QB RD1.
I think he's probably lying, but it just hurts to hear this shit
I mean... is this news to anybody though?
a) Like if we trade Lamar, taking a QB in round 1 would fall under the category of "the most likely of outcomes". Only thing that would deviate from us doing it is the kind of compensation we get and whether we can use it on somebody.
b) if we don't trade Lamar, and there's a stand-still in negotiations and it seems likely he won't ever sign an extension here, why wouldn't you look at QBs early? I don't think we'd move up to get one, but I think if Richardson somehow fell that far, we'd of course look at taking him. Same situation as when you drafted Lamar with Flacco still on the roster. You've decided the divorce is coming.
Honestly, just from a standard roster construction standpoint, it makes all the sense in the world to at least consider QB in the draft, given that you don't have one who's under a long term contract currently.
Do I ultimately think they take a QB in the first if Lamar hasn't been traded? No, because I don't think the board will shake out for us to do it. But it makes no logical sense to close the door on it entirely.
I also see some very comedic takes after this post. Like the QB refuses an almost unfathomable amount of $ and demands a trade, and we're really going to sit here and be surprised, disappointed, etc. when the GM says "yeah, maybe we'll look at another girl" after the girl we're dating asks to see other people? Really?
Also its very bad "optics" for several board members to be like "well we can't watch anymore if Huntley is the QB for a year". Like cool. Don't forget to disinfect your headset. The "get back in price" is higher next time you decide to get on the wagon. As some of you guys keep telling me... today's price ain't yesterday's price.
