2023 WR Thread

My guess is he's not gonna run.... If he does, I think he puts up 2 attempts in 4.6s. If JSN puts up anything in the 4.5s I'd be very happy.

my guess is that he doesnt run the 40 but runs at his pro-day

if his 40 time is sub-4.60 then i think he's gonna be fine
if his 40 time is sub-4.50 then i think you can forget about him being available at 22

i think 4.55 might be the sweet spot if you're a ravens fan who wants him at 22

I would love him to run 4.55. I think he's such a clean prospect too for what his NFL role would be. I so desperately want to pair Bateman up with 2 other guys. One from the draft, one from FA.

It's just so different. That's a terrible example. Hamilton has a non-conventional Safety body firstly. Secondly Hamilton showed HUGE ability to make up ground and be a play maker. His game speed was FAST. With JSN his game speed is so bad. Dude is caught constantly on things that should be TDs

Hamilton also ran 4.59 at the combine...
people got way too worried about a 4.7 (with rumours of slower hand times) at his pro day when he'd already gone sub-4.6 at the combine

but i also think the word speed here is important - JSN may well run a fast 40 but might be slow at the 100m or as we see in some of his tape, be catchable from behind

as you say, play-speed is important - think it's also important to contextualise that we're talking about speed and not explosion or quickness or agility

It's always an interesting debate. A "slow" WR can still feast in the league if he can run a route with grace and create separation. Think there are always some testing numbers that give you pause, but the tape typically tells that tale for me. Testing numbers just help hone in on what to look for.

Totally agree here.

think meyers is gonna be priced out of playing here, likewise DJ Chark
but give me a JSN or a Zay Flowers and complement them with a lower priced vet:

Darius Slayton?
Allen Lazard?
OBJ healthy with a full offseason?
Robert Woods while he's cheap?
Juju - probably not a fit if JSN's here
Jarvis Landry

Bateman, Landry, JSN, Robinson, Duv would be a nice and potentially reasonable top 5 on a budget...

If we're going the JSN route I'd like to see Chark. Maybe we can't get him but I don't think he's gonna be nuts. Or OBJ.

If we go Flowers or Addison I'd like to see Woods or OBJ

depends on the prospect obviously

with JSN, the rest of the athletic profile and tape are so good, that all im looking for is for him to hit the minimum benchmark for long speed which is basically sub-4.60 i think

i imagine it's been warped somewhat by the influx of highly athletic elite talents over the last 2-3 years - but i think maybe last year (or the year before), DJ said that if you took the top 10 WRs in terms of receptions/yards (can't remember which) and looked at the average of their profiles, their average time was only like a 4.55 or something slower than you'd expect like that

just did it for 2022 reception leaders and also yards and it's 4.46 for both now...

Doesnt have to be fast imo.. not like he is a cb or fs. Now if he runs a 5 flat or something, thats troubling lol but a 4.5 -4.6 isnt that bad. This is why i dislike combine though, it seems like they trust the combine numbers better than the tape.
I totally agree with you! But the point is the Ravens and every other team fixate on these numbers. He's not gonna put up a good time and that's why he's not gonna do it
