The 2023 Offseason Thread

I trust DeCosta to do it, unlike you Eric haters out there
Would be a ballsy as fuck move that would surely define his tenure here, but I wouldn't put it past him. Could ultimately feel that the only way you're getting him to accept here is to hear what other teams would give him without the deterrent of an exclusive tag where the Ravens control virtually everything.

Everyone would trust Ozzie to do it though

I really think this where there are at right now. We’ll see soon enough.

true....
But Lamar won't ever know what other teams will offer
yeah, certainly hope you are right. I still don't think he will be traded but I have to see weekly my % of him being a raven drops. I'm still very positive or more than most that he will be a raven long term

I feel like we are going to get good news tomorrow or Tuesday. Lamar will get his extension and we'll all move on to the media flipping the script saying how we shouldn't have gave him the contract after telling us for a year to give him said contract.

Cause that’s what the media does. Can we get an ignore button for the media? Lol

I just don't see the Ravens telling Lamar that he's not even worth the higher tag. If he gets non-exclusively tagged, I think it creates all sorts of problems for that negotiation process.
Lamar won't do literally anything in the offseason for $31M a year. $45M is at least close to market value. Not much to complain about in terms of compensation at that level.

At $31M, he's somehow still massively underpaid on the franchise tag.

And trust me, there's very few people more interested in what the market actually thinks of Lamar's value than I am, so the non-exclusive tag would make the next few weeks super enticing.

Another aspect I'd like to see is how long it takes. Theoretically, Lamar's offer could get better after the draft if a team or two completely whiffs on what they wanted. But I'd also suspect the Ravens would want this wrapped up before the draft.

there's no way it isn't

I don’t think the ravens are that concerned about a 1 year 45 mil deal. I think they are looking forward to 2023 and the Burrow and Hurts deals coming. They have not been able to come to terms in 1+ years of negotiations and they may be thinking they never will. the numbers are only going to go up if they can’t get a deal done before the summer deadline. Yes, they risk losing him using the non-exclusive but they may be able to match an offer that is way more cap friendly (or maybe not). If this goes on more then one using the exclusive tag you’d be talking close to 100 mil if they had to do this all over again next year. I think they have legit reasons to consider the non-exclusive.
