They'll probably wait as late as possible to see what's happening with the QB before doing anything. They may have to make big moves.
I wouldn't mind seeing the Ravens push some money into the future for once - the cap's expected to take some big jumps shortly - and spending future money is like an interest free loan which also means the players you sign now are relatively cheaper as a % of the cap by the time you pay for them.
For the next couple of years, the Ravens don't have to be as afraid of spending future cap as they've typically been. The scheduled rises from the current TV deal have got them covered.
They're not afraid to backload contracts. Did plenty of that last year and in years prior.
Its just the void years they're diametrically opposed to. I think they should start using them sporadically, but doesn't appear they will.
I think in the next 5 days they need to:
a) figure out what they're doing with Zeitler and Campbell. Need to either extend or release.
b) decide who they're cutting. My guess is Clark, Edwards and Duvernay are gone. That's $12M in cap space. I think Ricard may be on the block too, and wouldn't be surprised if they move off of Pierce either.
My gut says that they're going to cut Campbell and let him test the market, along with the other three. That gets you ~$10M in cap space for FA, plus whatever you do with Zeitler. Call it $12M.
They'll need $15M more later in the offseason, which is where the restructures will need to be done. Stanley, Marlon and Andrews for sure, and possibly a few others as needed.
Of course if you get a Lamar extension, it'll create space too. Maybe $5-10M. Brian has $10-20M estimate in his structure, but $20M seems aggressive to me. I think his year 1 cap hit on a 4+ year deal should be in the $25M range.
