The 2023 Offseason Thread

Take that bass out of your voice when you speak to me in this manner! LMAO, in all seriousness, we know the cap is fluid. OTC has us with $26M but it's simply a snapshot of the cap under this very moment. I'm sure there'll be players who are gone, contract restructures, whatever.
The issue is, who do we cut or trade?

this has been brought up ad nauseum.

Campbell retires saves us 6.5m
Zeitler cut saves us 6.5m
Clark cut / traded saves us 3.5m
Duvernay cut saves us 4.3m
Edwards cut saves us 4.3m

I think it's possible we restructure his contract and add a year onto it instead of outright cutting him. Especially since we are most likely losing Powers.

We then restructure humphrey's contract saving by converting a portion of his 10.5m salary into signing bonus and spreading it out over the course of the contract. This will save us money this season. We could do this with Stanley's 12.5m salary also, but it's possible we wait to do this.

We don't need to restructure those if we do all of these. So let's say:

Duvernay cut
Gus restructured, takes pay cut, now only 1.2m/yr
Campbell retires.
We save over 10m. We can now afford Lamar?

we need 45.2m for a franchise tag (32m until 5 days prior to the draft when it becomes 45m). We still need working capital for the entire season. I can see an extension and restructure of Gus' contract as well. I'm just telling you what is on the table and trading Queen is also on the table to recoup some draft capital. I'd rather not trade him, but he's definitely going to be traded after next season, if not sooner.

so what you're saying is you will be happy if the Ravens suck?
Nope. I just like to look at the positive side of something that seems inevitable if the current track continues.

Just like there's positives to Lamar getting traded (i.e. some of the dead fat of the fanbase gets trimmed).

I can't lie that I find this comical coming from you, rmc... since early early on when negotiations started with Lamar, I've been steadfast about how difficult it would be to do anything with Lamar on the tag, yet you and others kept saying how the cap goes up every year, we'll be fine, etc. Now that it is a reality that his salary is going to be 20-25% of the total cap and we WILL be strapped as I said we would be, you and others are finally seeing it's not so feasible after all w/o a significant overhaul of contracts and personnel just to try to get it to work. I have to be honest, since I started arguing that it really wasn't as easy as many were thinking just to carry two years of Franchise Tagged Lamar, that I've thought the plan would always be to sell high on Lamar and move on. All the headaches of dealing with that kind of contract with an agent-less player goes away. And though many people want to believe we will suck without him, yee of little faith should also see a pretty solid team in place And that with even a middling FA QB replacing Lamar it wouldn't necessarily mean utter failure. But Lamar mezmerizes, so anything with out him we will surely fail. I totally disagree with that premise especially if it cripples the team from making necessary improvements that they would otherwise do without the burden of having to rob Peter to pay Paul in some manner to get wiggle room to do anything. That's a horrible position for a franchise to be in.
But it is feasible. It's just not feasible AND adding a bunch of other playmakers, which is what everybody wants.

Keeping Lamar at a $60M number is feasible. It's just a question of what you're going to give up to get there.

I think the difference is people are going to quickly come to the realization in March/April, when FA opens, what it looks like.

Your comprehension seems off most of the time - that's why you live in the imaginary world of anecdotes you constructed in an attempt to convince others of your intellectual superiority.

Unfortunately for you, it doesn't work in this, real world. The only one who believes your stories is you.
The guy who wants to give Lamar a blank check thinks my comprehension is off...

It really is the offseason around here...

I really don't want to tag him. Queen is not getting traded anytime soon.

It's really not feasible, tho, because doing it is a detriment to the team.

Playing now like you read the tea leaves all along and saw this potential debacle of reorganizing the payroll to accommodate Lamar being tagged as anything less than an annoyance to the team is simply disingenuous. I think you could classify yourself in that group that didn't realize how big a task carrying Lamar on the tag for even a year would be.

Will they do it? Who knows. I'd like a contract or it's time to cut bait. With him on the tag there's too much you can't do that you need to do and would do without that limitation.

Can you show me where that was mentioned? Don't recall anybody mentioning any contingencies. They just said "do this because it'll make Lamar happy".
Not sure who exactly you’re talking about, because it definitely was not me or @Dom McRaven lol

One of my favorite memories is him doing the dirty bird wc round in 11
Mine is when he scored 3 TDs in week 1 for my fantasy team lol

bro just shut up. If you want a wold where the Ravens suck, sure. I'm honestly 100% sure that's what you want. Change your name to Bengalsfan101. That's all you are,

But feasibility doesn't require the team to be better...

Nope, I want a world where Ravens fans aren't total morons. And it takes losing for a couple years for it to happens, so be it.
