The 2023 Offseason Thread

Yeah not really meaningful though. Especially when you consider how productive the offense was compared to spending.
It's a product of a QB on a rookie deal and most of your quality offensive players on rookie deals also.

The funny thing for me is like the only thing people can legitimately bitch about on the offense is lack of spending at WR. And if we spent $20M a year on a high end WR, we'd still be bottom five in the league in total offensive spend.

Also find it comical when people wake up and realize this today, yet many of us have been saying this since 2018/2019, when we had offensive-heavy drafts for several years and pretty much all of the young talent was on the offensive side of the ball.

Plus, look at the top 10. I'd rather be us than most of them. Half those teams are spending lots of $ on offense and struggle heavily to put points on the board and win games.
exactly, just invest everything in defense and let them score for you

Dude was my favorite CFB QB. He would be a nice backup to Lamar if he thinks his starting days are over.

His Oregon teams were a lot of fun to watch. I’m not sure he is better then Huntley at this point

Not interested. Dude can't stay healthy and he's approaching 30.........................

........which makes him a bonafide Ravens WR.

EDC only got 5 draft picks. He ain’t gonna wanna give ‘em up during his favorite time of the year. He Gon sign Kenny Golladay and sell us that he’s just as good.

During those offense heavy drafts what pieces did we have on offense at the time?

The good ones:
Lamar, Andrews, Hollywood, Orlando Brown, Dobbins. Got those five from the draft in a 3 year period.
The bad ones:
Hurst (probably wasn't really bad, and netted us quality players in a trade back)
Duvernay
Boykin
Phillips

Note that was in addition to quality players who were already here before 2018, which included Stanley and Boyle.

If we went back and looked at the 2017 roster:
WR: Maclin, Wallace, Perriman, Moore
TE: Boyle, Ben Watson, Escobar
OL: Stanley, Jensen, Yanda (the good one's), Hurst, Skura, Howard
RB: Alex Collins, Terrance West, Buck Allen

So like yeah, the Oline was probably better on the interior than it was early in Lamar's tenure, but we certainly upgraded massively at RT, TE, arguably WR, and 1000% at RB within 1-2 years of Lamar being drafted. And most of that was through the draft.

That's my point. In 18 and 19 we needed to address that side of the ball. The defense in 18 was pretty much set with a couple expiring contracts... and cb. Never enough corners.

Non-Lamar highlights from EDC's presser...

Maintaining contact with Marcus Peters, but seemed very much like he did at the season end presser - he's welcome back but probably a steep salary decline.

Continued interest in Justin Houston, but anticipates that he probably won't sign until late in the process like the last 2 years.

Wants more picks but is also content with considering Roquan his 2nd round pick this year.

Going to keep swinging at WR in the draft.

Loves the CB draft class.

Best move is most likely CB with the 1st and I'm not mad at that.

Can't wait for the Proche highlights in TC again though.

Big news about Jalen Carter. Guy's career is likely done before it even starts. Dumbass
