The 2023 Offseason Thread

Well on offense we should expect to have JK and Gus at RB, Ricard at FB, Andrews, Likely, and Kolar at TE, and Stanley, Cleveland, Linderbaum, Zeitler, and Moses on the OL.

That core is really strong. If EDC can fix that WR like he says they are going to and Monken with the new contingent of coaches can get the system and players right, we should be exciting again!!

Well Gus coming back is a bit surprising. Must have been a very team friendly restructure

Given these "restructures", they're either asking for paycuts (which they're probably getting) and possibly using void years for the first time. Seems likely, given the complexity of the offseason. Gives even more credence to the scenario that the Ravens are essentially willing to match most, if not all, offer sheets for Lamar, and they're preparing for a potential higher cap hit than he's currently at.

I was going to address some of these "cuts" previously, but was wondering if the Ravens would opt to do restructures first, cuts later. Ideally i'd like to see them add a RB in the draft, and then possibly look to cut somebody like Edwards or Duvernay, in preseason, if they don't "win" roster spots. Would allow them to create cap space later on to fit rest of the roster and cap rollovers into the season.

Certainly one way to do it.

But if Ravens are truly willing to do void years, its a new dynamic, and one that could open up options. So far it seems Pierce and Edwards are the only two, and they're low $ cap hits. Wondering if they'll consider a large void year concept with somebody like Marlon, Stanley, etc., which would gain significantly more cap space.

I wonder what it does for the team having players all agreeing to pay cuts whilst Lamar is allegedly knocking back huge offers. Surely some resentment would be there.
I think players realize its a business first. That being said, no matter what size contract Lamar gets, the dynamic still remains that the more one person makes, the less somebody else makes. And less may mean less, or it may mean that player gets cut entirely.
There's 100% going to be players who won't be on this roster that would have been if the Lamar situation were different.

I think they may simply value a guy like Gus more than Duv who is probably going to be outright cut?

I think Gus knew he was on life support and the Ravens were his best opportunity. Someone with a bigger impact in personality like Marlon … we’ll see

There are a lot of teams kicking significant amounts of money down the road right now. You've got to think that means the salary cap is about to balloon heavily. I mean, we already knew that to some extent, but seems like it's getting closer to confirmed.

This actually makes me extremely happy. One of my favorite Ravens

It's a gameday tradition for me to yell "GUS BUSSSSSSSSSS!" every time he picks up a first down or scores lol

I expect Gus will look more like his former self next season now that's he another year removed from when the injury first occurred. He showed flashes last season, but just wasn't consistent. Having an extremely hungry JK and Gus next year is going to be fun to watch regardless of what happens with our QB situation

I think we can all agree that when Lamar and the team is in rhythm, we might be the best team In the entire league. I think that is what has made these last few years so frustrating is that we personally know what we are capable of and we want to see it. Others are starting to forget, (got in a bar argument yesterday because someone was talking about how Lamar isn't a good passer)

Gus is part of the equation, a variable we shouldn't change. When we can force linebackers to take a half step towards the center cuz the bus has been rolling, it perfectly opens up JK on veers or even Lamar around the edge. Dont even get me started on the play action.

It's funny how similar the NFL mirrors actually financial markets- push cash flows down the road for success - but in the NFL we would all agree to take a higher % of winning big and dealing with money issues later on. The cap is truly starting to become fake, we have the FO to take advantage and be innovative - let the old heads lag. I love that we are doing void deals now.
