The Good, the Bad, and the Harbaugh

I'm a little disappointed no one is giving props to Jimmy for a major bounceback game.
Some people did in the game thread, I know I did in the game thread but not this one. It's kind of expected with guys like Jimmy honestly. It's happened to Tony Jefferson time to time as well.

Flacco has no awareness . Nobody even covered Lamar . That’s not a good instinctive feel for what’s going on .

Instinctive is the word announcers use when they don't understand why something happened. Its like when they say "the QB felt the rush," no he saw the guy go behind him and knows how long he has based on that.

There is NO reason to even be looking at that side of the field. If he is option 5 and options 1-4 are left side of the field or in middle you won't look that way unless you are trying to fake out the defense.

The only way he knows to hit that throw (and I'm not saying its impossible because I have 3 or 4 QBs of the past 20 years who could) is that in his mind he needs to recognize there are 11 defenders where you are looking (center and left), recognize that no one is rotating even though the play has someone rotating to the right, stop thinking about which of the top 3-4 options looks best presnap, and quickly make that throw.

Its a very doable thing and I have seen players with that kind of football IQ, but its A not instinct its raw football IQ generated through watching tape and practice, and B he isn't Rodgers or Brady or Brees, but no one is so I don't expect him to be.

At this point Lamars basically a starter if he gets more snaps. It gets more complex and if we want to always sub him in and out. Sorry I meant a 2nd round grade. 2nd to mid - late 3rd round is in my eyes a huge difference.the 5 or 6th round in contrary isn't much different.

I had a high 3rd round grade on Andrews - the value was good where he was picked but he could have been picked higher

There's always a miss read in every game. Just today Brees and Goff missed Thomas and Woods for wide open TDs so it even happens to the best of them. It's about how you respond and Joe did not do that. I know you're speaking exclusively to the miss read here so that's my take on it but it does not discount the fact that he was atrocious today.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahh you just called Marty a good coach hahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahaha
Hes really not a bad play caller. He has good schemes. Flacco just misses too many throws and makes bad reads. Also harblah doesnt play talent over experience soooo....our running game has faltered thanks to his bs

Yeah, but I just think it is hard to give praise after getting smacked around during a must win game and some of the reason today was a must win is on him. He did play better but we are all just down in the dirt right now.

Between a 3rd and 10 where the first option is a 5 yard checkdown and the Lamar goalline run where running outside made no sense, I can't see him as a good playcaller

Honestly...next offseason. Id love to see us trade Smith, Flacco, Weddle, Hurst ( the bad one), let Brown, and ZDS walk and let Decosta build a team around Lamar. We need to pound the rock with play action. Back to old school football with new school rules.

Pounding the rock doesn't work anymore because thd NFL got bigger and faster. Run first teams just don't win anymore and building a team with an outdated philosophy is how you become the Raiders

Agree and disagree. Creative run games do very well in today’s league, the problem is just that the OL talent pool is such dogshit that you don’t have the horses to execute a gameplan. College coaches have really fucked over the nfl by giving zero shits about pro player development.

Run first? No, but you do need a decent run game to keep the defense honest.

the best offences in the league use the passing game to set up the run not the other way around - their good running games are a byproduct of defences not being able to clamp down on the running game

Which "must win" game did he get smacked around in?
