2024 Baltimore Orioles

Not sure if anyone saw the play where Mateo dislocated his elbow, but that was the worst injury(besides a batter getting beaned) I've seen in baseball. Pretty gruesome.

Austin is gone. Sad to see him leave, but probably a good move as it will give the young studs more playing time.

Kimbrel gives up an HR in every appearance lately; and that's a repeat of just before he was given a break. That makes a trend and makes him scary AF as a closer. Pitiful loss.

What on earth are the O's doing with these trades? Feels like they have made the ML roster worse and given up some solid mid tier prospects while doing it.

The gain of Eflin is greater than the loss of Hays, 100%
Agreed. We gave up a couple prospects I wasn't familiar with to get Eflin, but if TB was dealing, they got what they wanted.

I want to see how the RP performs before I crown the Hays trade as effective, tho. I mean, both teams are hoping for the best version of the guys for. It's a pretty low risk, but medium reward kind of scenario with Philly. The Elfin thing looks more promising to me, plus he has another year of control, so waiting for injured pitchers to return next year is a bit cushioned by this move. But he needs to help us THIS year - which is why we traded for him.

For me an important by product of moving Austin results in more game time for Colton and Heston. Kinda made sense that Hays was the guy to go.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Mullins traded before the deadline either. I think they were hoping for Hays and Mullins to have better years than they are for trade value and maybe in hindsight during the offseason might have netted a little more. But I also thought we were going to see Cowser and Kierstadt get more playing time anyway, since those were the main two competitors for OF spots and have more pre-arb time. Since both those guys are doing better with the time they've had than Mullins and Hays, it doesn't make sense anymore to have them limited and letting new auditions sit in AAA spinning their wheels. I hate that guys that have helped get us here are expendable, but sadly, I think that's part of the game and just how it has aligned with Elias' rebuild strategy.

Agreed. I think with the injuries and extended slumps at the plate it has made the decisions easier for Elias. And when you have an outstanding farm system it's often just the natural progression.
