Coaching Carousel 2024

I love Macdonald and think he's going to be a good coach, but let's also not pretend people weren't questioning the fuck out of him until Roquan saved the D last year. Leveled up even more this year.
Something I've learned... unless they are conveying factual info "people" are hardly ever right. lol

I like Macdonald a lot but not sure I’d can Harbaugh to keep a defensive coach. Now if we had the next offensive genius who was 36yo we may be talking but not a defensive guy. We’ve never seem to have issues there in our history.
Precisely this.
Fans are way, way, way, way overrating the impact of a DC in this league.

Got to think the only reason Wilson leaves is if he wasn’t ever the DC candidate for the ravens
Pretty much. Tells me Weaver is the in-house leader. If he doesn't get the Commanders HC job, which I don't think he does, he's the DC. If he does, Dennard probably didn't want to wait around to see, since he'd have no guarantees.

The nightmare scenario, however, is that we basically tab Weaver, Orr leaves to go be the DC in Seattle, and then Weaver actually does get the HC job in Washington. Then you're left with somebody like Hewitt or an outsider, which I assume is basically our 3rd or 4th choice.

What also sucks, in my opinion, is that Jim came to LAC and brought Minter with him. I'd have been yelling for Minter if Jim were still at Michigan. I think John would have already hired him already.

Sounding like Orr will be the guy here.

My guy did not have him in the conversation so will be curious to ask about this one.

For me this is great, he’s always been a crazy hard worker and you couldn’t get any more of a homegrown coordinator. He provides a legacy link to some of the great squads of the past, also being a former Ravens player has a special connection with the players. Hope it pans out.

And it’s much easier to just go with rumors and/or speculation then to do the real work of getting the facts…..and yes I’m guilty sometimes cause I’m lazy. lol

Tell that to the Texans. Went from first overall pick to winning the division with a former DC as their new HC.
I’d argue it didn’t have too much to do with his defensive background though. They found a good leader in Ryans. And obviously a good rookie QB too.

A one year sample, and with a high-end QB with an elite offensive play caller.

How did Brandon Staley do? An elite DC
How's Matt Eberflus doing? An elite DC
How's Robert Saleh doing? An elite DC
How did Ron Rivera do in Washington? An elite DC
Vic Fangio is a great DC. Dreadful HC

Mike MacDonald's ability to win games in Seattle, as he's about to find out, is going to be tied to a shit load of things that he doesn't control, i.e. does he have a playmaking QB who can win you a bunch of games.

although I'm a fan of Orr and supposedly he's a rising star, let's not forget Anthony Weaver is a former Ravens player as well

Same goes for OCs. For every Mcvay there's been several failed ones.

Response to my text about Orr. For transparency, I had gotten the coaching updates I posted yesterday in this thread last Tuesday night, so a bit outdated.

"They love Orr. Got into a room Monday after the loss and decided he was the priority to keep. Probably would have been Wilson if Orr went with Macdonald."
