The 2024 Offseason Thread

It's not one game though. Some people have it and others don't. That was one of the most egregious examples of not having it I've ever seen. What a ridiculously weak minded and spirited person. Crumbled literal hours before he had too.

Honestly I think just about every offensive coordinator has had a bad showing play calling wise. If you was the team offensive coordinator we probably be judging you for your playcalling too. Kyle Shanahan is known as one of the better offensive minds in the league and yet there are some or more than some that states that he chokes during the big game given how things happen in the Superbowl when he was the playcaller for the Falcon years back against the patriots and in the super bowl against the chiefs some year back as well.

Even in the game against the ravens last year there were some if not more than some 49ers fans questioning why Kyle Shanahan didn't run the ball more .I feel like we expect perfection out our coaching staff and even players which is understandable but these guys are human beings. This was legit Monken first time calling plays in the playoffs especially in a AFC championship game ever in his career even at his age. I don't think Monken gets enough credit on how good of job he really did last year. He was able to move to another city/state to be the offensive coordinator for this team, he had to take on offensive concepts that was previously left by Greg Roman, and he had to totally adjust to new players but yet was still able to help Lamar Jackson reach to a potentially second MVP award. With all the praise Mike MacDonald has received even he wasn't as good of a play caller in his first year compared to his second year.

Think you’re going a little extreme here my guy. Monken started off the season rough but pulled it together midway through and was one of the biggest reasons for our offensive success. Don’t let that last game cloud your judgement. No one was calling for his head in the 2 months leading up to that game.
As a fan it’s almost impossible to place blame on any one individual when there are so many questions I would have to get answered.

1. I would assume that the coaches sat around the table and developed a game plan on how to attack that D. So was it the game plan to attack that secondary, or was it supposed to be a more balanced attack and then panic started to set in when 2 scores down?
2. How much influence did Harbaugh have on that game plan?
3. How much influence does he have on in-game adjustments? Or does Monken have full control of the offense during the game?
4. How many times did Lamar see pre snap coverages that he thought were an advantage, then check out from run to pass?

The are so many things that happened during that game that Monken had zero control over, like the fumble, the strip sack, the stupid penalties, etc. So point is it’s not fair to put all the blame on any one individual. Collectively, it was definitely a disaster.

Lamar is not free from blame. At all. But he was not set up to succeed before the game and was left to go be superman again during the game. And he was less superman than Mahomes. Because Mahomes only had to dink and dump for 2 drives and then sucked so unbelievably bad the rest of the game. And they still won because of just how bad we were.
Yea it sucks, Lamar made two incredible plays that no one will care about now

So we are we keeping? Bateman or odell?

bateman's not going anywhere this year - probably wont get his 5th year option picked up but will be part of the WR group for 2024 100%
Zay is #1 WR, behind him it's Wallace, Bateman, and not much else. We could move Bateman but I expect us to keep him and let him play out his deal. We need a FA WR and a drafted WR.

What would be the numbers for the 5th yr option on Oweh and Bateman? Anybody know?

Projected $14m Bate and $12m Odafe
Yeah a little juicy but I dont see why we couldnt add a year and add incentives to the last year of their rookie deal. Bateman for sure is one guy I dont think we should give up on.

We’re getting Mike Evans ya’ll relax

We should definitely be able to draft a WR that will cost the same or a little more for the entire rookie contract and get similar or hopefully better production. Bateman needs a change of scenery, too.

my guess is Bateman. Both can be hurt at any given moment but Bate is much younger.

Hopefully he adds some size now that he is healthy and continues to condition himself.

And another year to work on his connection with Lamar

I could not disagree with this more to be honest. You are clearly letting one game cloud your judgement. Yeah it sucked ass but if we focused on everyone’s worst game (from coaches down to the players) then we’d have literally no one to play or coach.
Nothing is being clouded. And this is not a generic worst day. Regardless, you certainly don't have to agree.
