On the topic of Monken (and that was... certainly a discussion...)
Throughout the season, the play calling felt very uneven. Obviously, I think a lot will change in year two as Monken is more comfortable with the offense, as he seemed to really try everything and anything in season.
I will say, though- a lot seemed predicated on Lamar's ability to create off script. If he Monken had a Joe Flacco type that can't create off script and has to stay in structure, how does he look? I don't think that's a totally fair argument because the offense likely has way different play calling with a Flacco type, but I do think Lamar aided Monken a lot.
It is amusing to me that quite a few people joked that the offense during the Jaguars game actually hummed along better than we'd seen all season when the communication was down.
Still, Monken isn't going anywhere, and I don't expect him to. In the back half of the season, in a really tough stretch, the Ravens were one of the most efficient passing offenses in the NFL and I think the offense would benefit a lot from having another legitimate running threat (I love Keaton, but he's not the bell cow you can run through the tackles at a full workload.)
I also am interested to see how Monken looks if the offense fully caters to having his guys (I don't think Ricard is re-signed with Monken here, don't think Faalale is drafted, as examples.) Monken took over for an offense that was largely catered to Roman's style of offense. Have to think this offense will start to mold itself and look very different year two.
I'm not going to suggest Monken will 100% be the guy who should stay around for a while, but I really do think judging him off of one game is ridiculous and I really actually like that he tried everything under the sun to figure out what worked instead of trying to force what wasn't.
