Right now?question for you all. Where do you really think our secondary ranks in the nfl?
Lol, soon enough this tie will be brokenRight now?
In a 32 way tie for first.
As it currently stands, top 5, I'd say before the Tavon young injury we could've legitimately been the best in the league, a slot corner of his caliber is a huge boost.question for you all. Where do you really think our secondary ranks in the nfl?
idk if we ever couldve been first but def top 5. Right now i would say we are just outside the top 5 along with cardinals and falcons. As it currently stands, top 5, I'd say before the Tavon young injury we could've legitimately been the best in the league, a slot corner of his caliber is a huge boost.
Our safety tandem and jimmy smith makes us a good unit, having a solid veteran in Carr across from jimmy makes us a top 10 unit, if Humphrey can play up to his talent level rather than show his shortcomings, and if canadys camp was legit, then we are a top 5 and in the conversation for best unit in the league.
A lot of variables at play, but I think realistically with young going down, we are between 10 and 5 with realistic potential to be better

I would put us before the Vikings and the Pats. Vikings have Rhodes and Smith who are elite but after that it's meh, and for the Pats they don't have a safety to pair with MCourty, and Gilmore is pretty overrated.im not sure there are any teams that are notably better in the secondary on paper at this point... before tavon went down we had 4/5 nickel secondary defenders as strong starter level - and we still could end up with 5/5 - we may not have the star power or buzz of some other secondaries but i cant think of one that has as much strength across safety and corner as us...
i think the only 2 who look notably stronger at this point are the broncos and giants and I think most would argue the seahawks are still there too (although im not entirely as confident) then i see 4 teams who are around the same state as us where they have some questions with potential answers on hand already like the vikings, falcons, cardinals, jags and then a couple who have some superstars but also some holes like the pats and chiefs
completely unintentionally that makes 10 including the ravens - but outside of the top 2/3 on paper, you could rank the other 7 in any order until they get on the field - so you could argue the ravens are already a top 5 secondary or you could say they're only just a top 10 secondary but they're most certainly in that group of 10
there's one more caveat to the list in that not every team in that top 10 has the potential answers to be the top secondary - out of these top 10 i think only the broncos, giants, vikings, seahawks and ravens have a chance to own the number 1 spot
as it is id have those secondaries ranked like this at this point:
broncos
giants
vikings
seahawks
pats
ravens
chiefs
falcons
jags
cardinals
ill also just honourably mention the bucs and chargers as secondaries who could also make an impact (and in the chargers case they'll also have help from maybe the best pass rush duo in the league so could well end up with flashier stats)
i would say overall that how secondary is better than vikes. Your list is accurate though, i like jt. I feel like jags could have the #1 defense this season depending on their FS and SS play.im not sure there are any teams that are notably better in the secondary on paper at this point... before tavon went down we had 4/5 nickel secondary defenders as strong starter level - and we still could end up with 5/5 - we may not have the star power or buzz of some other secondaries but i cant think of one that has as much strength across safety and corner as us...

Pats secondary is better than ours for sure. Gilmore is better than all of our cbs outside of an healthy jimmy smith.I would put us before the Vikings and the Pats. So what you're saying is Gilmore being lesser to jimmy makes their secondary better than ours? Malcolm butler is not as good as a healthy jimmy smith, stephon Gilmore isn't exactly a model of consistency, and their safety tandem can't even sniff ours. At best they have a #2 corner better than our #2 corner and are inferior everywhere else. If you wanna argue the broncos or giants or Vikings then it'd be hard to argue back, but your argument for the patriots is seriously weakPats secondary is better than ours for sure. Gilmore is only good when he's not playing off of his back foot.So what you're saying is Gilmore being lesser to jimmy makes their secondary better than ours? And he's playing off his back foot atleast 25% of the timeGilmore is only good when he's not playing off of his back foot.
But if you ask ravens "analysts", tyus bowser is the only potential breakout pass rusher and Tim Williams doesn't existI'd say a top 5 secondary is where we lie. Jimmy is easily a #1 CB when he is healthy(albeit overrated by some who claim he's top 10 for bias reasons, but he's easily a number one who is good enough to take anyone on). I'd be more confident if Young were here, but something tells me that with Boykin we will be fine. He was the best slot CB in the NFL before injuries. Also a possibility Canaday breaks out, but I am not holding my breath. I think Marlon is ultimately a perfect scheme fit here, and that will benefit us greatly. If we get the Brandon Carr from last year we should be fine depth-wise.
We have three top 15 safeties in the NFL. THREE. Two in the top ten in Weddle and Jefferson. We have a good amount of depth here and that can rival anyone.
The secondary is easily in the best shape it's been in for years. The defenses dominance however will depend moreso on the pass rush. Tim Williams and/or Judon are going to need to break out
Isn't Bowser set to take over the MLB position? Which is honestly where he should be at this point in his career? I think he could rotate out to edge A LOT but Williams will be the situational third down guy who will pin his ears back and kill QBs.But if you ask ravens "analysts", tyus bowser is the only potential breakout pass rusher and Tim Williams doesn't exist
Yeah, there's a bit of bias if they aren't putting him in the top 5 when he's healthy.I'd say a top 5 secondary is where we lie. I haven't heard a word about bowser at ILB, I've only heard it's correas job to loseIsn't Bowser set to take over the MLB position? Which is honestly where he should be at this point in his career? Wow lol. I hate the idea of Bowser going on the edge full time basically lol. He needs more coverage opportunities. He could be our best coverage backer day one and one of the best in the league in a few years.I haven't heard a word about bowser at ILB, I've only heard it's correas job to lose
