The Refs, the OL, and the Coaching

I remember the defense was going to seamlessly pick up from MacDonald. They just failed to tell us they meant early 2022 MacDonald.
Some stuff you don't just pick up. Either you have it or not.
And not many have a scheming mind as devious as McDonald's.

Orr's huge shortcoming is a lack of experience with different position groups. All he ever did was LB stuff and even that was for a fairly short period. Now, he might become a HOF coach but at the moment he just doesn't seem ready. Early days, we'll see.

The Lamar era has been nothing but gut wrenching pain. This is disgusting, I cannot believe we lost our home opener after starting 0-1
The Ravens lost the 'season' opener on the road last week and their 'home' opener this week. So we've had that "L" to the Chiefs sitting on us for 9 days expecting them to play lights out (the defense did in the 1st half though) and they came out and played like that today. Sickening!

I'm gonna argue that there's something bigger than Orr being the problem. We've blown more leads than any other team in the last 5 years. 11 times. 7 of which have been by 10 or more points.

Is Orr inexperienced, of course. Is he at fault sure. But like... this has been a Wink... MM and now Orr problem. It could just be all 3 of them have this weird issue but it seems like it's way more fundamental.

Recall Orr is supposedly running the same defense as MM. Maybe some tendencies are shifted and whatnot but it's schematically the same. So if you're seeing similar things happen it's probably because it's a Ravens defense philosophical thing. Idk man but with that being said I was shocked they gave Orr the job and it wasn't Weaver. Idk if that will turn out to be the right or wrong move but made zero sense to me.

what concerns me right now is that we brought in Deonte Harty to be a returner, and then he wasnt back there returning kicks... we had john kelly doing it and it looked like the exact kind of disaster you'd expect

Also I continually hate Monken's cute play calling in key situations. The play worked (minus it being called back by a penalty) but you cannot tell me that a handoff to Charlie Kolar on a key 3rd and 1 is a good play when we employ Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry.

i understood that one though because lamar's really bad at qb sneaks

the play that i will always hate are those 3rd/4th down critical play calls where they call the sprint out right and cut the field in half - roman and monken have both done it and it almost never seems to work

mekari had a rough time vs Crosby yesterday
still dont understand why we didnt just let RR stay in there when he showed that he could handle it

I'm late to the board, but that DPI on Brandon Stephens. Bogus, right? Objectively? It changed the whole course of the ending, I feel. Not to put blame on just that call, but we had just crushed their momentum.

it was a horrible call
literally textbook defence on how you're supposed to play the fade - you get chest to chest and squeeze to the boundary

Yep. So far Orr is struggling.
I feel it was too early for him.

idk why anyone would say he's struggling right now...
it's 2 games in and the defence has mostly looked good

my only concern is that we're not seeing the same kind of sim pressures and my worry would be that we're not teaching pressures the same way that we did last year

but like that's the point
macdonald only really ever taught LBs too (he had 1 year with DBs)... and he had a rough start to his NFL DC career

blew another 7+ point fourth-quarter lead, their 10th in the last four seasons. It’s just crazy Harbs continues to get the benefit of the doubt based on a SB 12 years ago.

I believe his SB win benefit is nearly at empty now.
An 0-4 start would put him on the hot seat.

Stout's 25 yard shank is unforgivable. The weather was nice ,he had time and his only fucking job is to kick.

I can kick it longer than this.

Time to move on from him.

So every DC under Harbaugh has had 4th quarter defensive meltdowns. The only constant in all of this is he is the HC.

Harbaugh needs to hang it up after this year .

And then on offense:
First we blame cam Cameron, then we blame Jim Caldwell and the OL, then we blame trestman, then we begin blaming Flacco, then we blame Marty, John almost gets fired, we start Lamar, then we blame Roman, many blame Lamar, now we blame monken.

No matter who’s at OC or QB, there’s one constant, we are sloppy and disorganized on game day, and it seems there is never a real gameplan and instead it’s just throwing shit at a wall to see what sticks.

Well Lamar saved Habaugh's ass . I dont think anyone saves his ass this year if it continues like this.
