The Offseason Thread

John Ross is a bonafide scrub. He was a 3rd round pick who got over drafted by a scrub organization based off a fast 40. He NEVER played that fast. Keep him away. He is Trent Richardson all over again

I'd inquire. Just depends on what they're looking for as compensation. His biggest problem hasn't really been poor play. That's cause it's hard to play bad when you don't play at all.

Checked stats. 36.2 catch %. 13 games played and 10 started. Hmmm. 7 tds though. Maybe it was Hue's fault?

Even John Brown had a better catch % and Brown's targeted 2.2 yards deeper per pass than Ross.
However I'd still pull the trigger for let's say a 4th/5th round pick. I think thats a fair price, he hasn't shown much and the bengals are actively shopping him

If bengals couldnt use him we def gonna make him look bad..

He was a 1st round pick that got overdrafted (9th pick 2017 to be exact)

I meant he was a 3rd round pick in terms of raw talent who got overdrafted in the 1st because he ran a quick 40 like that matters.

He is the epitome of why I hate people who take sharp drops or elevations after combine.

Edit: I'm realizing my 2nd paragraph makes little sense hours later. I basically mean that I hate the combine because its used as an excuse for players who played like crap or to put down strong players because of measurables (good to have Brown though starting though as a rookie with awful measurables)

For the people who actually want Ross, do you honestly think the Bengals are going to trade him to a division rival?
I can’t understand why anyone would want Ross lol, he was a scrub in college and now he’s an injury prone scrub in the pros. He scored 7 TDs but that feels really flukey, ran the fastest 40 of all time yet isn’t even top 100 in YPC. For reference, all 3 of the ravens receivers topped John Ross in YPC.

I’d pay John Brown 8m a fucking year before I’d offer a penny for Ross. We had the absolute maxed out version of John Ross on our team last year, a small guy with quick and speedy traits, only difference is brown actually catches the ball well and Ross is mostly a breadbasket catcher, and we saw brown fizzle out, wtf do these people think is gonna happen with Ross? He would average 1-2 targets per game ffs.

Didn’t like Ross in the draft, laughed when the bengals took him high, thanked the heavens that the bengals stopped us from drafting him, and laughed at the failure that the bengals have been with him. Hard pass.

Yeah, I don't want him either. It just irks me that people always seem to think we can get a player from a division rival via trade. I mean, sure, it's possible, but it's not likely. If we really want Ross then we can just wait until the Bengals inevitably cut him down the line and not have to give them any draft picks.

interesting things coming from eric's combine interview and friday presser with tavon:

  1. Franchise tag not off the table completely for CJ but decosta very clear that preference is for a long-term deal
  2. decosta seems kinda coy buy confident that tavon's friday presser will not be the only one they have in the next 2-3-4-5 weeks
  3. decosta really likes john brown and would like to bring him back
  4. decosta was interestingly coy about picking up ronnie stanley's 5th year option - says team has options with stanley - i wonder if they are trying to get a long term deal done with ronnie too which ironically would probably mean his cap hit was lower in the 5th year than it would otherwise be
  5. Brandon Carr is 100% coming back - less definitive on weddle and jimmy smith and the fact that he's so sure about carr would have suggested to me that unless something crazy happens both those guys are gone - interestingly though he's been talking to both their agents about contract alterations - i wonder if he thinks they might be players who'd accept lower contracts to stay in baltimore
  6. team has heard nothing from yanda about retiring and that his intention at the end of the season was to continue playing
  7. would like to retain t sizzle
  8. lamar's training in florida (we didnt know where he was training before now)
  9. Gus Edwards is entrenched as the number 1 back but we're committed to adding competition to the backfield

Same man.. i hate that combine shit. They overvalue people or undervalue them like football pads dont matter and theyre gonna play flag football. They need tl start doing wr vs cb drills or something

They should at least make them run in full uniform and pads. Running fast in track shorts isn't that impressive.

Don't nessassarily disagree but there is importance especially with medical checks and interviews. One of my personal questions would be to Wil Grier and Cajuste as to why they abandoned their teammates in their bowl game but yet played in the Senior Bowl. I mean you can get injured going down steps (Sergio Kindle). Also the short term 10yd dash to check for burst and the 3 cone drill for balance are also important to evaluate imo. The 40 and bench press?? Pure garbage.

Alex Collins was arrested this morning after a car accident.
