Because maxx and boyle are gone and we need another blocker, he is a very good blocker who should be relatively cheap so i think its a good move

It just feels like such a weird thing to put so high on the list, not to mention Boyle or maxx can be kept and both are quality blockers and probably would cost less as well.

I don't think that's a given yet, but definitely a possibility if the bidding gets stupid.
Given Eric's stated confidence in Carr I think Jimmy is gone. That's a butt load in cap right there.
cutting Jimmy would give us 9.5m in cap space.

Really see us trading jimmy for at least a 5th, we have roughly 50M rn without signing mosley which will go down to about 35m after tenders and the cap we need for the draft which is more than enough to keep jimmy idk tho. I want jimmy at safety and we can fucking cut weddles bum ass

it could be difficult to trade him, but not impossible, with the base salary Jimmy has and the injury history.
It depends how you define "high on the list" - it's a blocking TE so I don't think many resources are going to be poured into this visit. It's not going to be anything expensive or hard to complete if we want to get it done. The visit is likely much more about letting Allen meet with Roman and Engram than actual contract talk. Figures have likely already been exchanged, and if everything goes well, there might be some minor negotiation, but nothing that is taking precedence over more important matters.

the reason he's high on the list is because he's a cut so we can already start talking and negotiating with him...
we're not allowed to talk to any other free agents yet outside of our own pending free agents

its likely an indication that we know boyle and williams value is not what we're going to want to pay so we're looking for a strong but hopefully cheap replacement for them which allen would fit - any contract he gets is likely no hindrance to any potential other signings
my assumption is they now know how much boyle's going to cost and are looking at alternatives
This, although I think it's much more an indication of Boyle's cost than it is Maxx's. If we were to sign Allen, I do still think Maxx would be a possibility after he tests the market and sees what's out there.
As soon as it was reported that Boyle is expected to have 20 teams interested, I kind of figured we'd be looking for our blocking TE elsewhere. We just spent a 1st and a 3rd on TEs last year, so clearly we don't want to invest more draft capital or a somewhat large contract. Allen makes a ton of sense - available now before the rush, won't count against the comp picks, and likely won't be very expensive. It's a good fit. You can't control timing so it looks worse on the surface, but I would also wager that we already kind of knew he was going to be cut, had an amount in mind, and just did the work to make sure he came here first. Not much time investment into him, as today's meeting is probably all with coaches and less with FO personnel.
From my maybe a little bit biased opinion, if you're a middle of the pack TE, this is where you want to be right now. No one else uses TE as much as we do from top to bottom of the depth chart.

I'm not in love with Dwayne Allen but with Maxx and Boyle being free agents there is a hole there. He's probably not gonna cost much. I really hope we can get Maxx on a pretty cheap deal. Boyle can kick rocks with his goal line fade running ass.
