Week 8: Lamar, Our Hands, and The Coaching

Exactly their thoughts. I don’t think they were expecting S to be such an issue, but I also don’t think they think adding another guy back there is going to solve the problem. They’re already working on getting it fixed. Adding a new face to the pile doesn’t help.

I have heard that they love Ar’Darius and he may be the guy going forward at S. They’ve need to rebuild his reps back there since he’s been much more sCB in the last 2-3 years.
Based on his college tape, I never liked ardarius at slot. He’s a natural safety. I get why they did it, he’s undersized and inexperienced so he’s double trouble in that regard, but it wouldn’t have hurt us at all to have him practicing at S, it’s not like we needed a slot corner in his time here, he could’ve been further along by now and ready to step right in now that Marcus is ass.

That's the problem is there are so many talented players on this defense. In theory, they have the capability to figure it out. But it won't be giving up free 12 yard passes every play with the nearest corner being 7 yards away from the receiver. It's so malpractice it really feels like the Ravens defense is playing with 7 players instead of 11. The media has been talking about how awful the Bengals defense has been for Joe Burrow... The Ravens defense has given up a higher PPG and yards that Cincy. Lamar, Henry, and Flowers are keeping this team afloat but it can't last a season.
Well when you rush the base 4, and another 2, and all six of them are stonewalled, then it’s more like the ravens are playing with 5 defenders, not 7. So you’re not wrong in feeling this way.

Real talk here because I agree with this but are you willing to pay 2 1st round picks? I have no problem paying a 2025 1st but not a 2026 too
I'm much more worried about how to make a guy like Crosby (and again, I do not think he's actually available) work within the cap than the draft capital it would cost to get him.

He just gives up so much size and speed, so I kind of get it at the NFL level. It seems they're willing to deal with some of the athletic limitations to work with someone smarter and more disciplined. Includes Eddie Jackson as well at this stage.

Unless we do it once, we'll never have The Guy. Hoping we'll find someone in late 20s / 30s on draft day clearly wasn't working.
Some mid round guys turned out good but it took 3-4 years to develop them.

It's either that or trade up in draft for maybe a steeper price without really knowing how will it turn out.

Best "the guys" in Ravens history are Suggs and Boulware who required those high 1st round picks, and Dumervil who we lucked out on because of old fashioned technology.

Btw Zach Orr's final six plays to end the Cleveland game were cover 0.

tbf that did make sense situationally
boom or bust when they're in field goal range - you either force them back, force them to make a mistake or get the ball back

i would hate those playcalls normally

i have a much bigger issue with the other 63 snaps on defence that preceded those 6

Yup.

I am just having a Jason Babin flashbacks. Hope our move isn't on those lines.
