Week 8: Lamar, Our Hands, and The Coaching

What do those two Safeties have to do to get dropped? What do the rookies have to do to get a look?

Eddie Jackson and Marcus Williams have contributed less than nothing this season with no signs of improvement - it's like we're defending with 9 men - yet they're automatic starters.

If Brade and Kane aren't good enough to take those jobs, when the bar is on the floor, start looking around practice squads and trades to get functional safety play.

He did the same thing today. I don't see it changing. You are who you are when you're jn your mid 50s.

Monken isnt even close to being a bad OC.. bateman drops, likeky drops, lamar over throw to flowers for a td… if not for drops and missed fg, we have atleast another 10 points on the board

And if he doesn't call an absolutely abysmal direct snap to Derrick Henry, that's another 7 points. I'm all for blaming players - I actually prefer it. But Todd tried way too hard today.

But those plays were made by Lamar finding a way when shit breaks, not by good play design.

The offense is crap and he's working with less talent.

Our defense gives up 30 every week despite having the best offense and running game in the league to make things easier - and Orr's working with better players too.

I had to check he was playing before I posted criticism of him here.

For all he contributes we could just drop him for an extra pass rusher every down - at least that woiuld make some impact on the game.
 
Honestly thought this game would kinda go this way. That was a fun winning streak. Obviously wanted a win but shit. Hopefully this loss makes some changes happen. Can’t rely on Lamar for EVERYTHING. Bros playing his heart out for a dub and you can tell he wants that SB win. But If Orr isn’t fired after this and a reasonable hire then I dunno about the rest of the way.

Also Bad drops all around. Like.. the football gods deemed it to be that way
 
I know people will say to give Orr time, but unless he makes a major change I don’t like his style of defense and he sadly needs to go. He can return to LB coach but his defense is just not good. He hasn’t been in any way creative with the schemes. His defense seems to be about guys just winning their assignments. That’s great and all but schemed pressure is a pretty good thing to have. I think we have all touched on this to some extent, but it’s very clear that Orr is less Macdonald and more Martindale.

The issue here is he may be keeping the same stuff as Mike but there is a clear difference in player execution. These are a lot of the same players but this is not the same defense. There’s no way we replace Orr this year. We definitely made a mistake with Orr and let sentimentality get in the way of progress. Part of me thinks Orr is a part of our communication issues on defense. Maybe the guys don’t respect him because he is their age in some cases, not sure.

Right now it feels like we have a Ferrari driven by Ferris Bueller.
 
I think the deeper issue with the defense right now isn't the secondary miscommunication, but the fact that schemed pressure can't get home. Sending 6 or 7 guys and not being able to even get near the QB has been a consistent problem. Feel like it's not great that I can identify who they're sending and who they aren't, and I'm a football idiot in comparison to the pros.

Actually the ravens defense has only giving up 30 points twice this year. Not every week
 
Im telling you we may have to look for another kicker if Tucker continues to miss. What happens when the weather gets bad? He starts missing from 40 or more?

From 50 and beyond its a complete crap shoot right now and the weather is good. . Maybe 45 and beyond. His kicks keep going left.

I have no confidence in Tucker anymore. I told everyone watching the game with me he was gonna miss that kick.

Sadly this will likely be his last year as a Raven . Hall of Fame kicker , the best ever.
