The Lamar, The Offence and The Pass Rush

Half our secondary played well today. Nate, Marlon, and Hamilton all were great. The other half, Stephens, Maulet, and Williams were ass. I'll certainly take the small improvement but Bo Nix was just so bad it's hard to say much at all. Cincy next week is such a good measuring stick. Good team, good offense, and you've already played them. Can you show you've learned something? Can you implement change?

The 4k/1k season Lamar is on pace for is right up there with the best season in NFL history. Were living the good life when he is constantly being mentioned with guys like Brady, Big Ben, Manning, and Rodger’s

Man I was talking about Joe Flacco on Facebook today with another ravens fan, It was in support of Joe though I said he was inconsistent. Dude chimes in and says he wasn’t inconsistent he just put the team first and didn’t care about stats and Harbaugh cleaned house in 2013 and bla bla, dude actually made me argue against flacco when I wasn’t even trying to.

Then he went out and played the game he played last night, after what Lamar did yesterday, and just confirmed all I was saying and thinking about Flacco. Joe Flacco had his moments of greatness, but when he was off, his play was as ugly as any awful backup qb you’d ever see. Lamar is fucking incredible, and every week he makes another case for being the best player in the league. We are spoiled with a qb like Lamar.

They're going to have to sprint with those goalposts if they want to make it back to their base of "hasn't won a Super Bowl" before he catches up with them.

I object to the notion that a one off single elimination tournament really tells you who the best team are anyway - all it really tells you is who won on that day. In sports with a league, the winner of that is considered the best, with the knock out cup winners viewed more as good + lucky.

I wish more NFL discourse was seen through that lens. The team who dominated the regular season shouldn't be viewed as having something to prove. The real reason the NFL decides things with a one off big game is because that's more lucrative, not because it tells us which team was best.

Oh the nfl would love a playoff series design, it’s not that single elimination is more lucrative, because more playoff games would result in more revenue, it’s because football can’t be played that way, it’s too physical a sport.

The worst part about those people is they can't just enjoy the fact we had both
 
I've been a believer in Zay for a long time and it's great to see what he's turning into. He doesn't scream number 1 on paper but route running, hands, and ability in the open field say otherwise. Thank god Monken finally got his head out of his ass and realized this guy can be used on much more than end arounds and screens. Those things should stay but the downfield ability just adds to the excitement.

I for one was concerned with his diminutive stature when we drafted Zay, was afraid we would end up with another Hollywood. But he's proven to be everything Brown wasn't, dude is a dawg.

It can't be stressed enough how much having The King in the backfield has opened up the playbook and helped to improve the passing game. Add in Zay and all of the other receiving talent, LJ's maturing and improved accuracy and it's become an offensive "all you can eat" feast! A real nightmare for opposing defenses.

We've never had this much collective offensive talent.

Honestly my favorite thing about Zay is watching him sprint to block for Henry or the other WRs. The guy is clearly a team player that will haul ass to score or help others score

I don't even see them as comparable players other than size. Hollywood was always a home run hitter on the deep ball. He could work at other levels, but his calling card was outrunning people deep. Zay's tape showed constant ability to work at all three levels and hit home runs from any of them. What separates them most is open field ability though. Hollywood would catch it and go down immediately, whereas Zay is always looking for those extra yards. I liked both coming out, but it's Zay 10 times out of 10 based on the tape for me.
