The Defence, the Harbaugh, and the Offensive Penalties

You can actually say he plays consistently good in big games biggest he wins them. Mahommes nor steelers qb plays great in big yet they win them vs us or whomever they play and thats only thing that people remember the W and L. Last night was indeed a big game and we won just like most our primetime games! Our team as a whole plays bad vs steelers and kc, its not just lamar but that seem to not matter. Nick wright just hater and thats cool because its part of his job and his job isnt based on how much accurate info he spits out
Well that and the fact that when you're a two-time MVP, with gaudy stats, and limited or non-existent playoff success, alongside getting paid $50M+, the only metric most people are going to evaluate you on is W/L record. They're already know you're good at everything else. They don't need to see more of that. They just need you to play better when its critical, and lift up your team when others aren't playing well.

In the Bengals games, Lamar bailed the defense out. Twice. In the Steelers game, the defense bailed Lamar out. Several times.

I feel like he did enough to win in that steelers game! Henry and likely fumbles didnt help.. nor did tucker 2 missed fgs but it doesnt matter since we ended up with the L. We also gotta clean up the penalties, i wonder if that maybe somewhat a coaching problem?

He definitely did, he overthrew the ball and got the ball batted multiple times, but he had 3 less possessions to score because of the fumbles (yes I’m counting that Hill interception as a fumble) and Tucker missed 2 field goals. That’s 5 possessions they came without points that were not on Lamar.

The problem is Lamar doesn’t look great against Pittsburgh either. He isn’t the solution or the problem. But this team always plays down to them. It’s like they forget how to play clean football. Same with the Chiefs. It’s not a talent gap, it’s a mental gap and I don’t know how the team ever recovers from it. That Steelers game and the Chiefs game earlier this year probably would’ve been the confidence they needed, but same old same old.

Seen someone post the rushing stats. If i hadn't seen that never would have known Saquon has 2 more attempts in 1 less game
I have always had a man crush on Henry, even when he was in Tennessee. But Saquon is on a whole different level than anyone right now. The only running back that I have seen really be this good in the last 15 years is AP.

Agreed! Ap and saquan only rbs i saw coming out of college that i felt like was a guaranteed lock. To think “ rbs arent worth early picks” is something people believe heavy in will always be wild to me..

Marshawn and Derrick were always favorites of mine. I thought they played like Ravens and should have been on our roster. Pretty great we were able to get The King while he's still rollin'.

Saquon is on fire right now no doubt, we'll see if he can keep it up the rest of the year and beyond. IMO he has a long ways to go(year after year consistency) to get into the same convo as Henry.

Henry has definitely had a better career and should be talked about more than he has. I would say a large part of it is playing for a small team like Tennessee most his career. But TODAY football I think Saquon is on a whole different level. He looks like the most explosive player in the league.

I swear i didnt see the hype in quentin johnson.. i thought zay was by far the best.. liked addison too though but that got dam quentin? Man o man, nothing other than his size looked like he was as good as advertised.. makes me think that maybe they drafted him hoping that he has julio potential? Naw, they make too much money for that kind of crazy decision
QJ had CRAZY yac ability in college, no question there, when he got the ball in his hands he hit another gear and guys couldn’t catch him, when they did catch him they couldn’t bring him down because he was too strong.

That does you no good if you can’t get the ball in your hands at the next level. He showed nothing else in his college tape.

I was torn on flowers and Addison but I think we got the right one out of the two, flowers is just clearly a better locker room fit and more dangerous on short passes and screens

I'll be honest... my biggest concern isn't Barkley. He'll do fine, but I think we're going to play a lot more base or big Nickel and try to take him away.
My concern is the frequency by which we'll play man coverage against guys like Smith and Brown, who are man coverage eaters. If you're loading the box to stop the run, there's a LOT of one-on-one matchups that favor them in the passing game. That'll be the challenge.
And with their OL you gotta expect hurts will have all day to let those guys beat the man coverage and then plant and throw.

Frankly I just don’t see this as a win for us. They are a matchup nightmare for us on both sides of the ball

That theory started picking up heat around 2012 or so, and I always said the difference between an okay back and a great back might only be 10 yards any given week, but that extra 10 yards can easily be game changing because where an okay back gets 1 yard on 3rd and 2, the great back gets 2. It can and will literally decide outcomes by getting that 1 extra yard that an average back can’t get.

I am 100% selling out to stop Barkley and letting the Wr's get their occasional splash plays. Hump matches up well enough with AJ and Wiggins is a nice match for Smith. They are going to score points, you can't let them control the clock on you. You can count on Hurts leaving some meat on the bone.

Lamar hasn't really taken off that much when it's unscripted. There have been a few moments where I am thinking to myself that he should go get a quick 6 yards and get down.

What's odd to me is that he is also clearly not running at full speed unless he gets downfield for a block lol

Anyone know how do we fix these penalties?

Think a lot of the defense playing better is we finally got rid of the bad players back there. Marcus Williams? Benched. Eddie Jackson? Cut. Plus bringing in Tre'Davious White was a solid move. I've given Orr a ton of shit for his scheme and play calling, but has it just been the players playing bad this whole time? With Roquan out, Chris Board got some playing time on defense and played well. Think Orr adjusted well to not having one of his best players on defense on the field. Think it took too long for us to realize certain players shouldn't be playing anymore but I'm glad we figured it out now, and not in the playoffs.
Not having Williams and Jackson on the field has certainly helped. But I am still a little concerned about Orr and our lack of communication. Last night Herbert had a man running completely alone in our secondary who would have scored a td but instead he threw and missed on a deep ball. And if we are going to go where we want to stuff like that can't happen

IDK... Today football, I'm still taking The King.
