Next Up: vs Steelers

Top 5 for sure this season, 3rd in completion percentage at 70.8, 4th in passing yards, 3rd in touchdowns, 6th in QB Rating. Losing Chris Godwin for the year and Mike Evans for 3 games and he still made it work with Cade Otton of all people. They haven't won more because their defense is ranked 27th.

I don't think Baker is a top-five quarterback by any means, but he is definitely a top-five quarterback statistically this year. Moving into next season, I can see the argument of him being a top 10-12 QB in the league.

Yeah, no. If you go by stats Goff is also a top 5 Qb, Darnold is top 10 and Mahomes is not even top 10. Mayfield is 19th in QBr and beating up on the lousiest in division in football. He's the 8th-10th best Qb in the NFl this year.

OK so the distinction in this case would be THIS YEAR. Mahomes is not close to a top 10 QB this year. If you pull in prior years, sure. This year, no.

Jared Goff is easily a top 5 QB in the NFL in 2024. Burrow, Allen, Lamar and Goff are the four best QBs in the league this year in whatever order you want to have them. You can entertain several names of who's the 5th, but its pretty much Darnold, Baker, Herbert and maybe Hurts.

And in terms of Baker "beating up on a weak division", that's not what the stats or the film says.
For comparison:
Baker vs 7 playoff teams he's played (3-4 record):
72% Comp %, 263 passing YPG, 17 TDs, 5 INTs. Only one multi-INT game
Baker vs 4 division games he's played (2-2 record):
71% Comp %, 268 passing YPG, 11 TDs, 7 INTs. Three multi-INT games

So in actuality, he's performing essentially worse against NFC South teams than he is against current playoff teams.

With Cousins benched, he will probably lead the league in INT's this year. He also leads all Qb's in fumbles.

Yeah Goff is also a top 5 QB this year. Again talent wise, I wouldn't say he is a top 5 QB, but statistically, Baker and Goff both have strong cases to be considered top 5 THIS YEAR.

Oh damn... Monken was coaching ball control to the receivers. He said in an interview after practice that he's been here for 3 games against Pittsburgh, we've turned it over 8 times. Let me try this again.

He better make sure all of the RBs and TEs are part of this practice as well.

In Fantasy Football, sure.
I mean, fantasy football is based on stats that's the whole point. BoredMarine and I both said statistically Goff and Baker are top 5 this year. Which is correct as it stands today. Nobody is saying Baker or Goff are top 5 QBs talentwise in the league. We can separate out yearly success from career success.

Well I think that's different from saying X player "is a top 5 qb this year". Top 5 Qb is a top 5 Qb, the ones you think are the best and would put money on sundays for. That also changes from year to year and isn't solely dependent on the past. Say all you want about Mahomes struggles and crappy stats, but in the 4th qtr of every damn game the whole stadium knows he's got this. Hell Baker Mayfield knew he had it under control.

So a) I'm shocked the CFB playoff scheduled games during an NFL window, and I think its comical that the first two playoff games are being shown on TNT, and not on any major network. I think that's a good indication of who dominates the market.
And b) they're doing Saturday games because of the Christmas games. NFL wanted to dominate Christmas with two games, and they could never justify Sunday/Wednesday games. So they did Saturday/Thursday. Also why the same four teams are involved in both.
Yea I'm not saying the NFL is playing second fiddle to CFP, but UT will draw a massive audience. Pretty sure they were second only to Georgia in the SEC as far as average viewership. I'd imagine the NFL is annoyed that game is direct competion to ours.

NFL is king

viewership figures in college vs NFL are in different stratospheres

I think they'll all do big numbers for the demographics they usually get. There's just a lot more NFL fans that will watch those games than the college games. The only smart thing they did was put the premier college game at night so its outside the NFL window.
