As a kid, I broke off the springy battery side of my Mattel Football 2 - the green one - changing batteries and fixed it by bridging it with a bent pull tab from a beer can I found out in the back yard after the family was over for crabs, copious amounts of beer, and baseball on a Saturday night. I was given the job of cleaning up the cigarette butts, cans, and scattered crab shells. Worked like a charm. Eventually replaced it with some tin foil because the back wouldn't slide back on with the pull tab.
