Season Review and Offseason Thread

2. Also very optimistic that core FA specifically Stanley getting re signed
3. Brandon Stephens is almost certainly gone(we all knew that already)

Stanley said he wanted to stay here and something about money not being the most important thing in his interview with Ogden so I'm hoping he won't cost too crazy an amount.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Stephens back. He'll be struggling to get an offer much over vet. min after the season he's just had.

I heard that in the interview and I disagree with Stephens. He will definiitely get an offer above minimum from others, but not as much as he would have received if he was a free agent last offseason.

Nothing Groundbreaking here but a few early offseason nuggets that I’ve gotten from my guy:

1. Team is optimistic Todd Monken returns
2. Also very optimistic that core FA specifically Stanley getting re signed
3. Brandon Stephens is almost certainly gone(we all knew that already)

aka run it back. No major changes. Same old story. Inevitable

Historical DVOA's the last 2 seasons. Gut wrenching, unfathomable bad turnover luck two post seasons straight doesn't change the fact this roster is extremely well constructed.

2 historical DVOA teams, 2 seasons where we had the #1 seed, 2.. possibly 3 seasons with the MVP.

Zero Super Bowl appearances.

I just know my expectations is going to be lower going forward. With how much we blow it in the playoffs.. regular szn victories won’t hit it for me.

I think we were all like this for the most part this year but conquering the Steelers x2, the Christmas game, etc made us think it might be different. That Flowers injury tho was a sick joke. You could argue the Browns single handily derailed our season by beating us then hurting Flowers with a cheap shot

This was supposed to be something of a reload year. 3/4 of the D coaching staff gone, 3/5 of the OLine flipped and over a dozen depth players that we felt on ST. The fact all of that was successfully revamped in less than a season speaks volumes about this franchise top to bottom. I know it doesn't ease the pain since the Bills and Commanders are in the chips during rebuild seasons of their own, but still, it needs to be pointed out now that we are in offseason evaluation mode. You can't take those things for granted, the Giants have spent a decade rebuilding their OLine and it still sucks donkey C.

Stephens won’t be back. People said the same thing regarding Anthony Averett. Brandon is gone

I honestly have no idea what the Giants have been doing. It’s kind of funny that Hurts has never thrown for more TDs than Daniel Jones has

I’m still hoping to get the 1 or 2 seed next season because we just looked off in the icy cold in Buffalo. Just fucking take care of business next season and beat lesser opponents. But yea.. like you, my expectations are now low moving forward. Same old story every year. Shit’s getting old now

I expect the roster to stay mostly the same but I do believe they'll work to get some deals done for cap relief. I think Lamar and Andrews are guys they'll try to work with in order to lower their cap numbers. Andrews is a tough decision because that 17M cap number is too high, but I highly doubt the team will cut him as well.

I really think edge, guard, and safety are spots you really need to look at. Guard play is preventing the OL from being a dominant unit. I think overall they were good, but it can definitely be improved with better guard play, Faalele just isn't good as a pulling guard naturally due to mobility and Mekari is servicable as a guard. He's got good technique, but his lack of size prevents him from reaching high level play. We need a safety who can allow Kyle Hamilton to play closer to the box and make those impact plays that we miss as well. Lack of consistent pass rush imo is going prevent us from forcing turnovers more consistently.

I am very late to the party, so maybe someone said this later, but...

Ardarius Washington is good. He and Hamilton really solidified such a weak position group for the Ravens and helped hold the back end together.

The issue is- he's just not rangy. Hamilton had to play a two high shell so often or be the deep safety because Washington isn't that guy.

I think the Ravens would benefit from, and love to have, a rangy free safety that can patrol the back end and allow Hamilton to be that guy that does it all instead of limiting his usage and versatility.
Agreed. Felt like the structure of the defense in the second half was more of the "we'll do a good job to mitigate scoring but we don't have some of our guys in positions to be the playmakers we want them to be". And that comes from mid-season changes to personnel and packages.

I don't think Orr is a conservative play caller, but I think he would have liked to have blitzed more in the second half, and I think he'd like to play a lot more single-high safety to disguise his packages. Didn't really have that option.

And I imagine they're going to spend a good amount of time this offseason figuring out a way to get Hamilton to just be a menace all over the field in any way they can. And that'll be achieved through some personnel upgrades.

Roster looks like in its a really good spot if LG and S are your most immediate needs. EDGE, I suspect they will keep swinging for "that guy" in the draft but its not like they are in a must-draft-1st rd-spot. #2 in the league in sacks and ~48/54 of those sacks are coming back next year.

Faalale looks pretty locked in at RG. Sure there are things he doesn't do well but his plusses seem to outweigh them comfortably.

Dude with the weird shaped head is gone. Understandable to try to get Trenton back on track.

Bro gave a hell of a speech tho lol

Having both andrews and likely make our
Offense that much harder to stop. Both are needed

Yeah Mark and Likely are pretty good together. They both are playmakers and do things differently. Andrews might be the one that still gets double coverage the most though.

Dang I had a feeling they might move on but after that speech he did i thought maybe they might keep him lol but it's understandable given Roquan had a down year and Trenton Simpson wasn't exactly as good as expected.

Means their expectation for Trenton was higher and they think this guy failed to do enough?
Never a good sign when you have a guy with that much natural talent and a couple of STers end up having to play. Trenton may never make it but developing him into a viable starter was probably the only thing that needed to be done to keep his job.
