2025 Offseason Thread

I think jayden the best under 25 right now though only cause of his position
Probably, but Stroud looked great after his rookie year too, before the team fell apart around him last year. Drake Maye looked really good in a bad situation too. I don't think there's ever been as many good QBs as there are now and they're nearly all in the AFC, sadly.

Daniels is going to have a much easier path to playoff wins and Superbowl appearances than the other top QBs and people are going to start saying he's better than the AFC QBs because of it - which might be annoying - but he is really good.

Actually it is, assuming Deebo is talking about starting field position. Since our defense has forced one turnover since the Marcus Peter's int against the tits, our offense has never had a short field to work with.
Okay in that case, yes. I thought he meant by not us being able to move the ball past midfield against them since 2020.

same as the jalen hurts thing

top 12 QB in the NFL
might be top 3 in the NFC behind Stafford and Dak (we'll see what jayden daniels is in due course)

the 4 elite QBs are all in the AFC (and they're all still under 30)

the AFC also has a bunch of other really good (or really promising) young QBs too

Happened again this year. In a 1 QB draft, the solitary good prospect ended up in the AFC and next year's top QB might well land in Cleveland.

I wonder if it's self-perpetuating? The bad AFC teams have to face a guantlet of top QBs, so they lose more games than the NFC losers and we end up with another killer in the conference.

Partially. It's also the idea that some of the AFC QBs we thought were "great" might not be. We thought Watson to the Browns was a problem, and it wasn't. We thought Russell Wilson in Denver was a problem, and it wasn't.
Nobody is scared to play Trevor Lawrence. CJ Stroud fell down to Earth last year, though not necessarily from his fault. Tua is closer to being out of football entirely than he is to being an elite QB.

2 years ago we were talking about the AFC having like 10 great QBs. Turns out it's basically what it's been for years, which is they have like five. Mahomes, Lamar, Allen, Burrow and Herbert.

I think the NFC has less "greatness" at QB, but a whole lot of "pretty good" QBs. I actually think they have a deeper talent pool of QBs than the AFC does.

Maybe you're right, for the moment, but I think the AFC has more potential. Stroud and Maye could both challenge Herbert for AFC QB 5 if the situation around them improves and I'm not entirely writing off Lawrence's chances of ever improving because there have been flashes.

On the NFC side I don't see many who could ascend much higher than they are now. Penix looked promising, I suppose, but less so than Maye and Stroud and I'd give Kyler the same maybe it could all come together grade as Lawrence.

Uhhhh.........where did you read that? That ain't the case lol.

Thought this was somewhat common knowledge but a combination of our defense and special teams has continually pitted us deep every time on offense.

Well I mean the obvious answers would be Caleb Williams and McCarthy, with Young and Penix a distance behind them. I think at least one or two of those guys will end up being in the group of QBs in the NFC that are all capable of winning a lot of games in the right situation.

Like I said, the AFC is really just top-heavy at QB. I don't think Stroud, Maye or Lawrence's chances of being great are that much better than guys like McCarthy, Penix, Williams or even Young. In fact I like those NFC QBs a lot more in terms of likelihood of seeing better development from coaching than I do guys like Stroud or Maye, or are playing for defensive HCs with seemingly rotating OCs.

Not that it's much better but Kyle Hamiltons forced fumble was on the bengals 45
True but that is also the only turnover our defense has forced in the last 6 playoff games and that isn't acceptable. To put it in perspective the 2024 Eagles defense and special teams caused 13 turnovers in 4 playoff games. If we are going to win the super bowl our defense has to do better at forcing turnovers

Jaire should help with this. Same with Starks. Also a plus if Green’s the real deal and can get to the QB in a hurry

God I miss Marcus Peters
