2025 Offseason Thread

Despite me being a fan, I think JAD is probably firmly on the bubble with the other CBs as well.

Dellinger will be an interesting one. I know they were pretty happy to get him, but it's hard to see where he fits on paper right now.

I still think they'll keep 6 OLBs if all of them prove they should be on the roster. They'll make a sacrifice elsewhere. OL and CB seem the most vulnerable from a pure numbers standpoint.

the fact that JAD is taking reps with the 1s suggests to me he's ahead of Tampa and Brade in the DB pecking order

i feel pretty confident we're keeping at least 10 DBs (more likely 11) and for me he's pretty easily in that top 10 and the 11th guy would be Kone vs Lowery vs Longerbeam etc.

i can't find a spot for dellinger, not without having no backup Cs in the 10 OL unless Emery Jones is going on NFI
and even then dellinger would have to beat out bullock/samac who seem to be 2nd team to his 3rd team right now

6 OLBs is tough to find a spot too

right now it looks to me like it's RB4 vs WR6 vs OL10 vs OLB6 vs DL6 vs LB5 vs DB12 for 2 spots on the roster
and in that scenario i've got OL10 because we need a backup C and WR6 on the roster because I'm assuming Wester's gonna win the return job, if he doesn't then that does open up a spot potentially for that 6th OLB (definitely think that's the position with the last chance of having a cut player pass through waivers unclaimed)

Barring injury I feel like we just know where this team is gonna be have its struggles. Maybe im being too cynical but here we go

KR and PR. If Wester isn't the guy and a big improvement, im not expecting much at those spots.

K. Loop is gonna drive me nuts all year.

P. Stout is gonna drive me nuts all year.

Oweh. He's gonna be a full time guy and I just struggle to see how weight helps him.

DL. Now missing Pierce, just cant see how the run defense will be elite.

Starks. He is a question mark and I'm sure he'll have some early season issues. Even Kyle did, but im extremely optimistic long term and even back half of the season.

OL. I just know Vorhees is gonna suck and I am no fan of Faalele whatsoever. Can't believe we've got a 2k Henry and we found a way to not improve either shitty OG.

Do any of these scare me? Only the STs, OL, and to a lesser extent DL do. Pretty excited about this squad though.

for me it comes down to Vorhees, Simpson and Loop

i'm not really that worried about Loop right now, maybe i will be when we get into the season but right now he's a young guy with a ton of talent who's clearly improving

vorhees and simpson were my big worries from last night - the rest of the offence and defence look absolutely stacked

i have a feeling faalele's about to make himself a ton of money this season

Damn shame we never kept Seiler
I'm not suggesting he hasn't earned it, because he has. But his career progression I would say is "unusual" at best. He was making like $4M a year on a non-rookie contract five years ago. Even two years ago, it was $10M a year. Now its closer to $23M/yr and he'll be 30 in a month.

I cant believe I forgot Simspon. Glad you saw some good from Faalele. Vorhees really seems like a problem. Loop won't miss every kick

Based on what I've heard, they aren't too pressed on ILB2. They're seemingly going to stack DBs on the field this year and feel like that's more of a 30% of the snaps role and they feel they can rotate guys in where needed, somewhat like end of year last year. Obviously Roquan going down would hurt, but ILB isn't a big deal for them as of now.

I'll do like 12 more of these and they'll always change, but if I had to put a stamp on it heading into preseason...

QB (2): Jackson, Rush
RB (3): Henry, Hill, Mitchell (just missed: Ali)
WR (6): Flowers, Bateman, Hopkins, Walker, Wallace, Wester (just missed: Miller)
TE (4): Andrews, Likely, Kolar, Ricard
OL (9): Stanley, Vorhees, Linderbaum, Faalele, Rosengarten, Noteboom, Vinson, Cleveland, Samac (just missed: Jones - NFI, Bullock, Dalcourt, Dellinger)
DL (5): Madubuike, Jones, Washington, Jenkins, Peebles (just missed: Urban - PS/back to 53 in few weeks)
OLB (6): Van Noy, Oweh, Green, Robinson, Isaac, Ojabo
ILB (4): Smith, Simpson, Buchanan, Hummel
CB (7): Humphrey, Wiggins, Alexander, Awuzie, Tampa, Armour-Davis, Kone (just missed: Longerbeam)
S (4): Hamilton, Starks, Kane, Brade (just missed: Lowery)
ST (3): Loop, Stout, Moore

OL is obviously the biggest question mark right now. If Jones gets healthy, you need to find a spot.

Which then begs the question of whether they'll start getting exposed more on run defense. Not saying it's a guarantee, but if you lose Pierce and then try to play much heavier Nickel/Dime than they already are, if I were an OC with a run game, I'd be all over that.

Lucky for them the run games in our division are generally pretty putrid.

Oh yeah there's certainly some risk to it, but collectively across the NFL, passing reigns supreme. They feel they're better equipped building a team to stop that, and feel that they can plug a body in to stop the run when needed vs. investing in trying to have 2 all-around ILBs nowadays. Rossi has already kind of hit it but I know Buchanan has been building a lot of confidence.

He's often referred to as "one that got away" internally. They were in a roster crunch and didn't want to cut him, but felt they had to. I can't remember who exactly the other alternative was, but they greatly wish they had chose that guy instead.

Pretty sure at that point we were deep at DL

Partially, yeah. They went veteran heavy late that season with Ellis and Peko. That's ultimately why they moved on from Sieler, because they had plenty of bodies. They thought Sieler would sneak through waivers again and they had almost immediate regrets when they lost him.
