Ngata walked so Aaron Donald could run. Ngata was on another fucking level

Ngata is literally the last person I would ever wanna be tackled by. They teach you to try go THROUGH the ball carrier, and I swear I’ve never seen a man go THROUGH nfl players so casually, he absolutely plowed through world class athletes with zero resistance at a level I’ve never seen before and haven’t seen since. Just raw inertia in human form.

That said, it was constantly rumbled about that he wouldn’t have dealt with so many nagging injuries had he worked in the offseason to slim down just a hair, it was always reported that he was failing conditioning tests and was overweight, and as incredible as he was you could see it, his feet stomped so hard when he ran it was like he was tryna push the earth down, it looked extremely labored at times.

Yep it’s this essentially. He was an absolute beast of a human and won plenty of matchups on that natural ability. At the same time, his diet was a consistent struggle and it took him longer to get into football shape than they felt it should have taken. He wasn’t lazy by any means. Just young and won on natural talent. He grew up and learned but the injuries had taken their toll by that point. They genuinely felt that if he was more dedicated to the game, he’d have been a 1st ballot HOFer and probably mentioned among the greats at the position. But not all guys are football robots and they know that.

Thanks for this, and in this context it makes much more sense to me. I think in the off season he was probably much more dedicated to his family and put football to the side, and I can see where that would make it tougher for him to get into shape. If that is what is meant by “being more dedicated to the game” it’s most likely spot on.
I also think that during the season there was no one that had a stronger work ethic, or was more dedicated to the team than Haloti. Without writing a book here, if you look closely at his personal situation coming into the league, and the culture he comes from, I think it would be apparent that the level of dedication to his wife and family was much greater than it was to football.

As someone who eats alot and still cant gain a bunch of weight, i always assume its the complete opposite for others. Probably was hard af for him to lose weight so he likely just played at what weight was most comfortable. Genetics play a big role in those situations..
