2025 Offseason Thread

I watched his snaps with Dallas and he was not good. He had no arm and poor accuracy and was managing to only look below average because of a solid line and good weapons (specifically Lamb).

He is a textbook example of why wins aren’t a QB stat.
He has a bad arm but when I watched him play for Dallas I thought he made pretty good decisions and didn't panic under pressure etc. That's sort of Ok for a back up, just operating a more limited version of the offense.

Wins aren't a QB stat but bad QBs wreck wins. Dallas hasn't been the QB paradise you're painting it as for a few years now. Their O line has been closer to average for a few years (though it's improving), they didn't have any running game at all for the last couple of years and they only had Lamb and an average TE in the passing game. Rush absolutely had to contribute to those wins.

Snoop always was bad.. hurt my soul seeing raven fans hyping him out
He was but there are levels to bad and he's a lot better than Leary. If he was QB3 he'd at least give Rush a bit of competition for the back up job, and give the receivers some catchable targets in camp - as long as they aren't too far downfield.

Was told to keep an eye on Josh Johnson as QB3 if Washington ends up cutting him as expected. They had some interest in retaining him over the offseason but attempted to get better and younger. Sounds like they'd be interested in using one of the vet PS spots on a QB like Johnson if he's amenable.

Broken record.

I be more excited about Jordan Ta'amu than old man JJ.

And Wtf happened to Longerbeam.. Harbaugh gave a weird response in regards to his injury. Said it was a long story lol

We're talking a PS spot here. Johnson knows the offense and has run it effectively. He and Lamar have been close for years and Johnson has been referred to as an extra coach in the room. They'll take that over a UFL QB all day given a choice between the two.

Can Reuben make this team? He's probably CB7 right?
He's more of a S than CB at this point, but yeah he'd play some nickel theoretically. Everything I've heard is that he's firmly in the hunt. Maybe on the outside looking in right now but he's in the fight.

I've got 65 guys in the hunt for the roster currently, although that number is significantly buoyed by WR, OL, and DL specifically.

At WR, I think they'd take Miller, Kirkwood, or Wade on the 53 if they had to but I think their chances are quite slim. I think you could just as easily say none of them are in the competition but I'm including them in my 65 just in case.

At OL, you have 1 or 2 spots for Bullock, Samac, Dalcourt, Dellinger, and Jones (if healthy).

At DL, the question seems to be if they want to get younger if the unexpected guys continue to impress. Jenkins and Urban vs. Okoye and Ravenell for 1 or maybe 2 spots.

If you assume they take 1 of each of the latter positions, that's 10 guys that fall off the list right now and puts you at 55.

Feels like the question at that point becomes RB (Ali) vs. LB (Higgins) vs. Edge (Ojabo) vs. S (Brade/Lowery/potential vet) for 1, 2, maybe 3 spots depending on how you look at it.

So actual injury. I had heard early on that it would be a couple of weeks so I guess additional testing got a different answer.

I hadn't really heard about Okoye prior to him signing here, but the reports out of Chargers camp from last year seem to indicate that he looked really good against the PS types but didn't do much with reps against NFL level players. Would be curious to see him get some earlier reps, because game 1 made it look like there might be something there.

Apparently there have been some conditioning/fatigue issues too - partly why he played so many snaps last week

I did like huntley throwing the check downs but other than that he was like really really bad

The ability to run massively helped him
And it’s such a valuable trait for a backup because it creates “easy” wins

And for the ravens, a mobile qb helps to allow you to force teams to account for your qb in the run game like they do with Lamar and opens up the passing game a bit more

It’s a shame tyrod never came back after lamar became the starter because he would have been a perfect backup in that offence

The problem right now is that most mobile qbs are either starters or projects because that running safety net provides value that even below average passers become viable starters as long as they’re not turning the ball over

Huntley sucked as a passer but his rushing created huge value as a spot starter

Damn good problem to have
It sounds good on paper but I don't think it's as deep as it has been in previous years. It's stacked at certain positions and even then, I don't think there's anyone that is in the realm of being cut that I think would hurt even a little bit.

My biggest problem with Huntley is that as Lamar’s backup he just was a worse version of everything Lamar did. I understand why the coaches would want the continuity if he has to come in but having someone with a different skill set could mess with all the prep the other team did if he is coming in for a few drives or a half.

In theory maybe but Lamar is also a much, much better pocket passer than anyone who would ever be a back up, so I'm not sure what else you could throw at a defense that they haven't already prepared for from Lamar.

Other than the quick game/checkdown stuff which Lamar doesn't need to do ( and that already describes Rush and Huntley) all I can think of is Cam/Allen style QB power runs.

I don't disagree entirely, but I think the value of someone like Huntley being just a worse version of Lamar is that he could still effectively run the offense. Yeah he's not as fast. Yeah his arm strength is much worse. Yeah the decision making isn't on par. But he could effectively move the ball down the field (and did so without someone like Derrick Henry).
