Lamar Jackson

This is awesome news. First of all, our qb working out with WRs is a breath of fresh air, second, lasley is a supremely high ceiling receiver who definitely needs to work to get anywhere near that ceiling, jugs machine, busting his ass in the offseason and developing chemistry with lamar can be huge for this team.

I still think lasley is a long shot to really become anything more than a 4th, but he has the potential, if he can realize it, to become a star. If he can develop well enough to become a big play 3rd receiver then that would be awesome

honestly i dont see a 4th receiver in him - he's so clean and dynamic in his routes and has such a nice feel that i think he's incredibly boom or bust - for me he either manifests as a starter or he probably amounts to nothing - he does things that would elevate his game beyond a 4th if he did pan out that i dont see him ever just being a 4th guy... he'll either be successful or gone

I don’t think he’s a high volume guy though because I don’t trust his hands, can you really give him a #1 workload? Sure he’s a natural separator and is capable of making some very difficult catches like a #1, but if you’re targeting the guy 100 times and 50 are catchable and he straight drops 10 of them, can that be a #1?

He’s a strange case for sure and I just don’t know what to expect from him

these are the reasons I'm glad we took a chance on him. I pounded the table for him, so I hope he pans out.

This is why I’m kinda of the opinion that he’ll either pan out or bust - he’s already got a really intriguing skill set that to me means he either busts or succeeds because he already has those traits in the middle...

Lamar and Lasley working out together. Think Snead was there too.
He has the wherewithal and passion to do it in what would be technically his first full year of playing NFL football! I am so happy he is proactive and passionate about becoming a better passer and football player. Sadly for all his talent, Joe never did that till his 11th year under tremendous pressure to do so and then only for a couple of days prior to start of TC in a field adjacent to the UA center....

I think he could turn into a solid 2 or 3 that always has the potential to make some big plays for us. He would really have to improve his hands in order to be considered the No. 1 WR on our team. Aside from that, he has all the other qualities that you're looking for in a starting WR.

really interesting - he's so comfortable in the pocket already: eyes always downfield, economy of movement, nice feel for the rush, always aware of timing

its so hard not to be really excited

the arm motion is a bit too whippy (especially in those earlier starts but we know that's already one of the 2 major focuses for him this offseason alongside ball-handling)

Its a good thread but if you pick right tape you could make Blaine Gabbart look like Peyton Manning. Trying to argue he had good accuracy when he was the least accurate QB in the NFL both outside the numbers and over 15 yards (if that changed after w17 I wouldn't know but as there really weren't any deep balls that game I can't see why it would).

Being the worst in the NFL at throwing those balls is what the numbers reflect and while his completion percentage wasn't 0 so you will find good tape if you hunt for it, overall he was not accurate and the numbers back that up.

Re: Lasley

I think it’s all about preparation. If he does what he’s always done it’s a guaranteed nobody in the league. If he looks at a guy like AB and puts in that kind of work he can be successful.

And for the love of god I hope it does.

god above Hurst and Skura were bad - not always at the same time but they both got absolutely bullied on multiple occasions - so many of these clips show jackson having to avoid interior pressure

watching the throws from the chargers wildcard game is really interesting though...
for as bad as people thought he was - he only threw 8 passes (including throwaways) before the 4th quarter - where he threw for 169 yards and 2 tds

3 of those throws were good (fairly simple but often was facing pressure anyway)
1 was a throwaway forced by derwin james before the deep route came open and avoided the sack
1 was a miscommunication where the receiver didnt sit down like jackson expected
1 was an overthrow which resulted in an unfortunate interception
1 was a slight overthrow where Hurst was in his lap as he threw the ball
1 was a misread after a high snap - should have thrown backshoulder and in stead ended up throwing the ball away deep

what stat are you using to quantify his accuracy because if it's completion percentage i have some context for you...

drops/throwaways/low volume of passes means any miss counts more in the stats

and a number of other things...

once lamar fix his accuracy or if he fixes it, we should be fine. I still think its the way he holds the ball. Maybe i could be wrong but that shit looks weird as hell

It was an ESPN stat that I will dig up again because the stat was one of those ones that confirmed the eye test.

Basically they broke field down into sections as one does and for both throws targetted outside the numbers Lamar was the least accurate and for throws targetted over 15 yards. This held true for weeks 16,15, and 14, but I didn't check after the Browns game or WC game so he could've moved to 30th.

It’s very possible that he holds the ball wrong and it does look a little funny, but It also definitely comes from his stance and release, he was still too upright and forward facing and his legs too close together, he didn’t do it all the time like he did in college and he did improve his motion a lot, but he still reverted to it a lot.

The fact that he made progress in that regard was the most encouraging thing because it shows he’s not stuck in his college form and it shows me that he can get there in time
