Future Changes Coming

Hello all,
So some of you may have heard that I am leaving. Truth be told I did not like the direction the community was heading. And most of it is my fault. I wanted to expand, but instead, I became power-hungry. I have received some significant feedback from certain members who no longer post here consistently. When I was promoted to administrator I wanted to ensure that this was a community where all opinions were heard. I feel as if this environment is hostile, and most of that is instigated by me.

But, I've decided to take the bull by the horns. Thanks to @RavensMania I've decided to make one last ditch effort to stay. I want the moderation to be more relaxed than the moderation on the older forum. Those moderators were too power hungry, more than I have been. But we need to actually do something, unlike what we are currently doing.

You may like it, you may hate it, but our response to growing the community is that we need to become more family friendly. Starting almost immediately, we've decided to institute a profanity filter. While extreme, I do think that it does become better. Similarly to the older forum, any words will be replaced with [profanity deleted]. Some of the members posting are religious or have children, and we really don't need it.

However, if you post some things with [profanity deleted], unlike the previous forum, we will not be warning you. We don't want the moderation to be overbearing like it could be at times. Obscenities slip out. I get it. But we want to encourage a more civil environment.

Additionally, only certain actions will be punished. We are all Ravens fans, no matter how intense or heated debates can get. Personal attacks will be punished, no if, and's, or buts about it. I started posting when I was 13, and I think that other forums such as Russell Street Report are chaotic because of their lack of rules. The other community really felt like home.

The politics thread will remain open so long as no one there starts to push an agenda down everyone's throat. The moment I see agendas and personal attacks I will shut it down.

I would also like to take this opportunity to apologize for my unacceptable behavior. I've instigated most of the behavior on this forum, and I will take 100% of the blame. @RavensMania has been kind enough to volunteer to help me. We hope that these changes will do nothing but expand most of the community for the better. We want to encourage people from ALL fanbases to come here. So long as they are civil. I would hope that our behavior would reflect that as well. When I made that thread back in November, I was hoping stuff would change, but nothing did. There's still a severe lack of intellectual humility on this forum, and while I am a massive part of that, it would be a blatant lie to indicate that I am the sole instigator of this problem.

I would hope that we could all band together and act like adults. Ironic coming from me, sure, but we will be more strict than we have been, in an effort to grow the community.

If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me. Again, I take 100% of the responsibility for the community's decline. I sincerely apologize, nor do I expect anyone here to forgive me.

Personally, I think this is a lot of bullshit.

I haven't noticed anything nasty on a large scale since this board started. Sure, there have been few 'fights' among members but you sort that out by reminding those members about the rules and what cannot be tolerated.

"Family friendly" community? What exactly does that mean?

So is this just trying to be more civil? Limit some of the profanity? I honestly hadn't noticed it getting out of hand, but I appreciate the effort. It would be cool to get this place more active again like the old forum.

It’s not getting out of hand, but I’ve received multiple complaints from prospective members and former members who didn’t feel like it’s a welcoming environment. Things aren’t as bad as RSR. But they’re not good either.

We need to make an effort. Not just me.

Even then it’ll be a limited filter. We won’t punish anyone for it either. Let’s not act like I’m going to crack down on the slightest things. We aren’t.

We just want to encourage more people to join

It will get more active now with training camp coming up and the season - old forum used to be very dead at this time of the year, too.

So, they'd join if this board turns into kumbaya singing sanctuary?

@Lost_In_Translation , I understand your reasoning behind all of this. My next question may come as a smart-aleck one, but I'm dead serious with this: can we add "Marty" to the list of profane words? He censored our offense so it's only just.

This. There's nothing to talk about.

I felt oppressed at the BR forums and they didn't give a shit. As long as people are civil, don't really think it should matter...

There were some heated "debates," I remember, but all seem to be fine.

That's fair enough.

I forget every year how bad this time of year is. I miss football.

A lot of people are saying they don’t see the issue being mentioned but I actually do. I’m firmly anti censorship, but I’m all for a less toxic environment, and it’s true that differing opinions often devolves into shit flinging nonsense, and we’ve all been doing this for years so we’re used to it and it becomes humorous with us, but when new posters come in and they post an unpopular opinion, they’re given some pretty arrogant shit tier responses and it’s easy to see why a newcomer wouldn’t continue posting here. I like to think I’m less like that than I used to be, but I know that back during the peak of the Flacco debates I had to have been the worst piece of shit to argue with.

I think a lot of us don’t see some of it as toxic because we’re all just so used to each others bullshit here lol but to a newcomer it probably is off putting.
