The Ravens, the Dolphins and the Dolphins

But now these players have the reputation of being quitters when the going gets tough. The more-talented players on that squad may get some leeway but that's about it.

I just think that the organization as a whole is responsible for this. How do you ask players to work their asses off during the off season, training camp, and preseason just to “tank” for draft picks in 2020. Risking career ending injury. The idea of playing for draft picks is bad business IMO. It just breeds this kind of stuff. It would be a little different if they were out of contention at mid season or beyond, but starting a season under these conditions is not good for players, and especially not good for a rookie HC who is responsible for keeping the locker room together.

It looks like players are blaming Flores for bad coaching scheme here but the problem is bigger then that. The GM has done a f’d up job trying to transition this team to rebuild IMO.

The dolphins hired Flores to be the scapegoat and nothing more, they probably agreed to pay him a little extra under the table after the tank is finished for him to basically destroy his HC chances, otherwise who the hell would want that job

More likely they told him they weren't tanking, explains why the trades happened so late.

Yeah I don’t know. It’s more likely they failed to tell him all of their plans, because like you say, who the hell would walk into that situation.

Tua is a junior and a kind of guy that might just go back to school for senior year.

I was just about to say the same. It's not 100% that he even decides to enter the NFL draft in 2020. Would be funny if they're tanking for him and he decides to go back to school.

Miami are going to be awful for a long time, imagine going back to school to avoid getting drafted but then they pick first again the next year or your draft grade falls off a cliff.

exactly. No one would want this and the Dolphins are going to need more than one year of a rebuld. I don't care how many picks they have, they need much much more than a QB.

This guy gets it. I actually think the players should get a clause in the new CBA levying heavy fines on organizations that blatantly tank. This isn’t basketball or baseball where guys have 10 year careers. You shouldn’t be allowed to gamble with people’s lives like Stephen Ross is doing. The Browns were just bad as evidenced by the litany of poor choices they made even with high draft picks. What the Dolphins are doing is disgusting.

I get why the players are mad but I don't think they made an awful plan on defense. The strength of that defense is SUPPOSED to be the secondary and so they tried to lean on them.

Its also not like the Ravens were not still pounding the rock against a weak front 7 so if they want to be the strength of the team show it, and if they aren't a good enough unit to do so then that says a lot when 2nd contracts come around.

When you take an ass whoopin like that it’s easy for players to re-evaluate in hindsight. SOME, not all of the players felt like committing both safeties to stop the run, and then not making adjustments after getting burnt twice, was bad coaching. I don’t disagree with your point it’s just what they are saying. IMO they just don’t have the guns to match up to our offense. Had they moved people out of the box we would have torched them on the ground. We were already having success on the ground anyway.

The Skura PFF grade vs Mia has been increased. Filmstudy asked Gordon McGuiness and Ben Stockwell about the 33 grade and Ben had already removed a charge for a bad snap (Filmstudy did not know that was in pass blocking score), which substantially increased his rating (now 54.8).

so far id honestly say orlando brown jr had the worst game of any of the ravens starting OL - not a bad game but not a great game either for him

ive reviewed this statement and i can say i was not just slightly wrong but completely wrong - orlando had possibly the best game of any of the starting OL - maybe even better than Yanda albeit im not read to say that for sure yet lol

the breakdown of snaps by quarter for all our offensive skill position players here is more instructive than simply looking at the snap counts - says a lot about usage and what the ravens might do moving forwards

Brown I get, he is still injured (not getting into this again), but why Boykin? In a vacuum, you would think so long as Lamar is out there you want your rookies out there.

i dont get the issue - this to me says boykin's clearly a starter - he's got 18 snaps but that was 2nd on the team in the 1st half behind only snead

I would think you want your young guys to get as many in-game reps with the starter as you can if they are for instance a rookie with a lot less rapport with Lamar then say Andrews would have, but then again Andrews played mostly the second half anyway

As I scored it, Brown had his best game as a Raven and it was slightly better than Yanda although I graded both as As.

The play of Brown in week 1 was the biggest relief on the OL, given his poor play in the preseason. Here's my writeup for the OL:

Michael Crawford was the guest on the offensive podcast and we talked for several minutes about Brown starting at approximately 41:00:

Yeah I had a listen - been really enjoying how you’ve evolved the podcast since bringing on Michael more regularly

I think with regards to brown my first watch might have been influenced by how he played in the preseason (and the reports from training camp etc) on review he played really well
