The Offensive Line Thread

from a senior analyst at PFF...

Best Offensive Lines by Pressure Rate Over Expectation
1. Cowboys
2. 49ers
3. Chiefs
4. Giants
5. Ravens
...
31. Texans
32. Vikings

it's so odd how their individual grades and their team grades dont match up very well with each other and the general opinions of non-pff observers

i just find it incredibly odd that the ravens OL is that high
Lamar had lot of time in first two games though.

2020 draft. OLine and pass rush. That is all.

I would also add that CB to the list as well.
OL, CB, Pass Rusher, WR. We’ve got some needs. I think we should focus on LG & maybe LT just in case we can’t lock down Stanley. None of our WR outside Brown have shown me much and I think at least two are free agents next year in Moore & Snead? Yeah Smith is a free agent but we still have Carr at an option with Marshall here if he gets himself straight. I don’t see anything at OLB unless there’s a miracle and I don’t know what the fate is for Onuwasor so we may need an ILB too. You could even say DL is a big need as well

CB, pass rush (outside and inside)
Everything else can wait

I’d agree especially on both considering we’ll likely lose Smith & Judon next year. That said, do you feel comfortable with our OL? I don’t. I also don’t feel comfortable trusting on Boykin. He’s starting to remind me of Tandon Doss—preseason warrior but regular season dud. I think he’s a significantly better version of Doss though.

We'll draft O line but probably not too high, as it looks like Yanda will play in 2020, too (knock wood he stays healthy). We have 2 very good tackles, Skura and Bozeman are on the up and improving every year. I think we're good.

WR is an issue. I hope we re-sign Snead, I like him a lot and I think they'll be patient with Boykin. Perhaps not worst idea if we put Scott in and see where we're at with him. Chris Moore? He isn't Ravens future. D line is my biggest concern, then CB closely followed by mid LB.

At some point we need to look at the rest of the league and compare our line to theirs because there is a shortage of quality lineman. Having two solid tackles is an accomplishment in itself. Yanda retiring after this year is what scares me

I kinda disagree with cb. As long as we can keep Marvin the pass rush and o-line are both over cb.
The problem is that we need deeper secondaries now because of how teams can spread you out. It’s why we struggled against ARI & KC partially because we couldn’t handle their WR depth.

I agree to an extent. Btw need to clarify but I think we need a LG who could swing to LT. That’s what I meant, otherwise we’re good at T. If we can get someone like that then if Stanley leaves you have a replacement and if not then you have a swing guy if he gets hurt. Agreed on Moore. I think we should see what we have in Scott during live games just to see what he can do. As for DL, I agree—that’s my top area to address atm. Either by edge OLB or interior pressure.

I don’t think our OL is bad at all and better than most. I just think getting 1 OL would go a long way. Not advocating for double dipping with high picks like some. That is a waste because those guys rarely contribute immediately.

The rest of the league isn't close to being a contender though. The actual contenders in the AFC are Patriots- Great Line when healthy, and Chiefs- good line when healthy.

In NFC its Cowboys-great line, Eagles-great line, Rams-good line, and Saints-below average line. So basically almost all other contenders have themselves an OLine because its essential.

I'd throw in PIT with a QB & RB & WR when they had that trio because of their OL was pretty stout as well with what they have there.

Our line is definitely better than New England, Rams, and the Chiefs as is. The Cowboys have multiple first-round picks on their Oline
