Ravens Trade News: Marcus Peters, etc...

Bleh. Looking like we might be staying put (as assumed) unless something big happens. Still a lot of time. Keep the faith, brethren

i mean if we dont make a trade it wont be for lack of trying - EDC been busy on the phones etc. but no realistic opportunities to make something happen - that being said the marcus peters trade took place over a smaller than 24 hour period so there's still a chance if a team decides that after thinking about this weekends slate of fixtures they arent in the race anymore or something - who knows...

that being said if we dont make a trade it will be yet another slap to the face of *** who said after we traded for Marcus Peters that you should expect us to be really busy in the leadup to the trade deadline...

I think he said this prior to getting Marcus Peters, but yes, he is wrong again. What's new?

After yesterday it's worth seeing if the Bears want to trade us Mack for Vedvik
Not yet. Vedvik needs to be fully embraced in Tucker's teachings. He became too selfish, thinking that he was above His scriptures and look what happened to him. The football gods struck down with the worst of luck. He needs to be worthy of any trade talks.

Ravens fans are going crazy on Twitter in regards to the Snead deal, thinking it opens up some cap space, but I don’t believe it does since he wasn’t technically extended. I could be wrong though.

What's that now?

If Willie Snead was extended I see no other purpose to such a move other than to create some cap room so we could trade for somebody that falls outside the existing cap parameters. Very little information out there to get a complete picture.

the timing is odd for just a random extension - would be incredibly coincidental if it was meaningless
im hesitant to say it means we're finalising a trade but its highly possible that we've decided we're making room in case we get a trade done but also are doing the deal because we need a bit more breathing room in terms of cap space (in case god forbid we get more injuries etc.)

Just depends on the structure. We only had $1.8M in cap space to begin with, which isn't really even enough to account for injuries. Maybe this creates some space, but I doubt it adds more than like maybe $2-3M, at most. Also possible they just tacked the full extension onto next year, so maybe its all $6M next year.

Edit: as I look at Snead's current contract, I think the most cap space you could create from this extension is about $1.2M.

If I'm correct, and we should know tomorrow, you're only sitting only $3M in cap space for the trade deadilne.

That's basically nothing, and not close to being able to acquire really anybody of notable contract value.

This extension, to me, looks to just be locking up a player for another year without letting him test the FA market.

I read somewhere that it creates an additional 2M in cap room totaling to at most a little under 4M. Either way that doesn't seem like a whole lot but it may be enough to do what we may do. Otherwise the timing of the extension doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I guess my question would be... why doesn't it make sense? Mid-season extensions are not at all uncommon in the league. If you have a pending FA who you are interested in keeping, it makes plenty of sense to try to get something done now.

I mean its not like it happens to everybody, because if you're a player like Judon, you've already been advised to test the market and see what happens. But with a guy like Snead, the market for him wouldn't be very strong at all, he's not very expensive, and he's probably found a role here that he wouldn't find elsewhere.

It also makes sense to create some space for later signings and practice squad guys. Injuries happen all the time and you can easily be forced to sign a couple of guys off the streets.

Other than that I'm ready for some trades.
