The Random Thought Thread

couple of things i disagree with - skura's getting a 2nd round tender and i dont think he's losing his starting job im afraid unless we get an A+ rookie in the building - i think we draft an interior OL to add competition, hopefully win a spot on the OL and eventually take over yanda's spot when he calls it a day but i think skura's gonna be here for at least 1 more year as our starter - not sure ricard needs a 2nd round tender tbh - probably can have the original round tender - no one's gonna steal him from us because no one needs a fb who plays DL or a DL who cant play 3 downs

and with regards to the draft if all things are equal i.e. no quality differential between all positions when we pick - there's no way we dont take a pass rusher if one's there - otherwise im pretty much with you in terms of priorities - no idea who we'd target in free agency though - we need to extend ronnie stanley this offseason also

Stanley is an obvious priority.

Are we content with keeping it with Skura and Bozeman next year? Thuney is PERFECT for this scheme.

i dont think we're going to be signing a free agent OL because the price is always extortionate vs actual value to the team - i think the idea will be that we have all 5 starters returning (+ all the backups) and then we add a piece in the draft and see what happens + patrick mekari and ben powers will have had a whole year to develop and we've been pretty decent at developing OL from low picks/red-shirts to starting calibre players - wagner, jensen, skura, lewis, bozeman

obviously id love it if we added a major talent at IOL in free agency as long as it was a good price but i think that's unrealistic so i turn to the draft and we normally take at least 1 OL a year in the draft - just the round we pick them in changes - if we can grab one on day 2 i think that's probably a nice place to grab one

my plan for the offseason

Extend Pierce and extend Peters

Tender Ricard ( 2nd round ) Edwards ( 2nd round)

See what you can do
Peanut
Judon

FA priorities J Thuney ( LG, move Bozeman to C)
Clowney

Draft Priorities
Round 1 - ILB
Round 2 - OLB/DE pass rusher
Round 3 - WR
COMP 3 ( fucking do it for us CJ) OG
Round 4 CB
COMP 4 DT
COMP 4 OG/C

I believe Peters will be extended, but not Pierce.

Just watched the most recent lounge podcast with earl thomas

one thing hasn't changed

Ryan Mink is the worst. He's annoying. Wish he was gone.

He even looks annoying to add to his cringy way of expressing things.

but who do you replace for TJ to go in - no way joey bosa isnt in - so are you taking khalil mack out? it's really tricky lol
I guess Mack because he hasn't been as dominant as Watt. I mean at least from what I've seen from the bears which has been more how terrible Trubisky is than anything else

I’ll be honest, I’m looking for LG only, skura has proven us all the way wrong, he’s been not elite, not necessarily great, but I’d give him a very good rating, but I think he may offer much more than us fans can see, my guess is if you find a center that can succeed in this offense so well then you’d wanna keep them, this can’t be an easy scheme to be the center for.

Skura definitely improved a lot and best thing is, there's still room to get better. Bozeman is in his only 2nd season, so I'm happy with him, too.
We do need to pick a good guard though - Yanda is balling but who knows how long is he willing to go.

not many presnap penalties either and that has something to do with Skura, without a doubt. He's going to get a pretty nice contract after next season, which we of course will let walk.

he's had some disappointing shotgun snaps early in the season and he's still susceptible to being dominated by really athletic DL but on the whole he's been pretty great

I have this feeling Raiders are going to give their 2 1sts and more to jump and grab Tua in the draft. Tanking teams are tanking for picks, not a QB.

Great subject and I kind of agree but not completely either. It’s one of those mixed bags things because I think we could do a lot better than Skura like McCoy whom many of us wanted. I also think we can do a lot worse, too. I do think we could use more interior OL competition, but I also would like a better swing tackle or backup LT as well. That’s a bit of an area I would love to improve. That being said...

I agree we need to find a replacement but I’ve come to accept our philosophy with replacing players is to wait until they’re gone then replace them. Look at everyone we ever lost. We had guys but never really seemed to invest top picks until those guys left.

I think we all agree we can improve on him but we all know we could have worse like Gino Gradkowski and even Zuttah. Best thing would be to get a swing guy who can man all three spots or shift a guy over. It seems we like to use our groomed G at C though so don’t be surprised if we groom Bozeman or someone else to play C if we don’t intend on keeping Skura.

completely agree - bozeman will have had 3 years in the system and at least 1 (but possibly 2) years starting at LG by the time Skura's up for a contract and Bozeman will have potentially a full year to start at centre (unless we find someone else in the interim who we like more at either LG or C) before he also becomes a free agent

I haven't thought of that, good point. Mayock has already surprised me with their selection of Ferrell, i wonder what their are planning next. Gruden and Mayock have quietly built a good team.

Bozeman is a natural center, so I wouldn't be surprised if he is the Center when Skura leaves in 2021.
