The Random Thought Thread

bernard pollard has been pretty quiet since the season started huh...
I never understood people freaking out about us cutting Pollard. I mean what did he do after he was cut? He could still lay the wood but was a total liability in coverage. But since he was vocal it was because he was in Harbaugh’s “dog house”.

Did Harbaugh reduce snaps on some guys if he had an issue with them? Uh yeah kinda what coaches who like having some control over their team do.

All forgotten now I guess.

i cant really think of anyone who would be a better option in either category...
the only other contenders for coach would be shanahan and Mcdermott but i dont think either of those guys would be serious contenders - you might get a couple of voters going rogue and giving flores votes (like that one year someone voted Bobby Wagner for MVP)

in terms of execs i cant think of anyone who's had a better year... or even been in the same stratosphere

and laying the wood has become less important every year since he left us - partly because the rules have taken that kind of hit out of the game a little (and pollard was a classic example of a leading with the helmet kind of tackler and would not have survived these rule changes in the same way) - but also because the league isnt about safeties hitting hard as a primary tool - coverage is king on the backend in the league and form tackling and range too

Thank goodness the Steelers melted down in the final 2 games cause ill bet there were voters just itching to give it to Tomlinson but now there is no justification for that.

I noticed Pollard was only talking when we were struggling earlier on this season, but not much of that same energy as of late. As for Pollard's departure, I was actually happy with it because he really wasn't that strong in coverage. Matter of fact, our pass defense was HORRID in the regular season.

BP was interviewed live on one of the NFL talk shows a couple of weeks ago. The first question he was asked was to comment on the great job John Harbaugh has done with the Ravens this year. He laughed nervously and said “you would ask me that”, blew right past the question and immediately went in to his “veteran presence in the locker room” in 2012 diatribe. It’s pretty sad the way he tries to keep him self relevant with the same old crap.

I don't pay attention to BP one iota.

You’ll hear the comment going into the playoffs “Everybody is 0-0”.

Not the way I look at it. We are 1-0 (along with KC SF and GB). Everyone else is at 0-0.

Do you guys think Lamar is gonna get his own version of a Philly special these playoffs?
I hope the hell not.

I do NOT believe in taking the ball out of your best players hands for the sake of trickery, scheme, or anything of that nature.

if Lamar gets a philly special, that means someone else is holding the ball, someone far less dangerous and skilled, someone who is likely far less poised to deliver than Lamar. I’ll take 4 consecutive plays with Lamar taking the snap and running our regular playbook before I’d take a single snap of him running a route.

also, Lamar is getting attention there, nobody in their right mind would make nick foles a sole reason on a pass play which is why it worked, half the goddamn teams in the league wanted Lamar to play WR less than 2 years ago so as this play forms there’s likely still a spy on Lamar.

i think the key here is that the offence has been working so efficiently we havent needed trickery - trickery is for jump starting your offence or finding a big play that you've otherwise been struggling to create - this offence is not struggling to do that - in fact it has been scoring points at the 4th highest rate per drive in nfl history

no problem with pulling out tricks if your offence is stalling but yeah, not being able to get 10 yards over 4 downs with lamar is pretty unlikely
