I like collinsworth, don’t get the hate. Good energy and good banter, his voice is a little shrill but he’s really not a bad commentator at all, I think his spot on SNF is pretty well deserved.

and he clearly does his research - like you can dislike him but it's hard to argue that he's not one of the most widely knowledgeable in his profession

the same can not be said of others in the industry with high profile positions

I’m re watching our super bowl, and man let me just say, that anyone who thinks jacoby deserves mvp over flacco is a fucking hater straight up.

since seeing Lamar, my eyes have been opened to how bad flacco was, but in that playoff run there’s no doubt who the mvp was not just for the super bowl but for all 4 games. Flacco was absolutely incredible in this super bowl, jacoby made 2 great plays, but flacco was consistently lethal, he absolutely lit these niners up the first half and made clutch throws the second.

Exactly. Like yeah he likes the cowboys and Steelers and patriots too much, doesn’t make him any less qualified, nor should it make him unbearable. He sucked on the older madden games, I’ll give ya that lol, but aside from romo you can’t name too many that are better, nantz and Simms and michaels are up there.

he was historically great during that run - did something that statistically no one had ever done with the TD:INT ratio and pulled a team that had key players throughout the roster but ultimately was not a special roster (was past its prime in many respects) to a superbowl title out of seemingly thin air

he's deserving of all the plaudits

it's also fair to say that apart from 2014 when he was above average, you could argue he's been a bad QB in every year since then and you'd be able to make a pretty strong case

Oh he’s been absolutely terrible, we blamed the coaching and the roster around him but it’s pretty clear now that flacco was horrid aside from a good game every 5-6 weeks

i really like terico but he's currently on the bench at NBC

but you're exactly right - he's clearly got biases but it doesnt manifest in the same way that it normally does in some others and i dont hate him for it because he makes salient points all the time about other teams and glows about all sorts of players (often guided by PFF grading - but that's a different issue)

and there's rarely someone quicker than him to be able to explain exactly why the previous play happened the way it did - he sees what's going on as well as someone like Romo sees it

Buck and Aikman were so much better in 2019 than in previous years and that whole Fox broadcast was better than its been in a long time - with erin andrews there too its a really good team - the number 1 Fox team is pretty good

Nantz and Romo are obviously great as the number 1 CBS team

Michaels and Collinsworth are great and have great chemistry as the NBC (SNF) team

With CBS sniping Charles Davis away from Fox, he and Ian Eagle (I'm assuming Eagle will stay as the number 2 play-by-play guy) should be good - I like Charles Davis

My favourite announcer is Kevin Harlan and Rich Gannon is good enough - genuinely think Kevin Harlan might be the best play-by-play guy in the business - he's certainly my favourite

Kevin Burkhardt on Fox is nice too - will be interesting to see what Fox do to replace Charles Davis here

Will be interesting to see what NBC do with Collinsworth in the future with Brees coming in - I'd always assumed that Al Michaels would do 2 more years and retire after the next NBC SuperBowl that year - but interesting that Collinsworth might go too... I'd always just had Mike Terico slated in to replace Michaels after that and just keep rolling with Terico and Collinsworth but if Brees is coming in then that could shake everything up

With ESPN missing out on everyone, I really think they should just have Orlovsky and Riddick in the booth with a play-by-play guy - both of them are interesting with some broadcasting experience and some intelligence - would potentially take the pressure off them to share it - would honestly be more interested in Riddick/Orlovsky right now than [insert big name here]

normally against the dolphins or some other sub-par team

for a few years, we got really used to not beating good teams - we'd beat most of the teams we were supposed to beat and then get 1 win a year against a team with a winning record... usually the steelers

2017: we didnt beat a single good team and the lions were the only team we beat with a winning record
2016: we beat one team with a winning record - the 11-5 steelers
2015: 5-11 year with flacco injured - but people sometimes forget that we were 4-7 even with flacco (obviously there were other injuries but we started 0-3 and 1-6 without much of the depth gone yet) - our only win against a winning team with flacco in the game was another win against the steelers (which ryan mallett then also accomplished later in the year lol)
2014: even in 2014, flacco's best post-superbowl year, we only beat 1 team with a winning record - the pittsburgh steelers
2013: only 1 win against a winning team - the cincinnatti bengals

so in those 5 years - a flacco led ravens team never won more than 1 game a year against a winning team
in 2018, ironically before he got injured he led the ravens to 2 wins against winning teams - 1 against the steelers and the other against the titans

that being said - the only good teams a flacco led ravens beat post superbowl were the 2014 steelers in the playoff (and once in season), and the 2013 bengals

we should have realised in 2018 immediately just how much of a seismic shift lamar was - he had 2 big games to close the season - we lost the chiefs game which felt like the same ol' ravens of the flacco era and then we smacked the chargers - probably the best team we'd beaten in the 5+ years since the superbowl victory

and then this year, beating good teams became routine after that win over the seahawks

I hate Charles Davis, voice is unbearable and he says the most outlandish shit for a booth announcer, like I don’t like where his topics wander when he’s trying to fill the quiet spots. I forgot about Harlan, he’s great, maybe the best after romo. And yeah orlovsky has been a great up and comer as well and I’d love to have him on a commentating crew, also Chris Simms is a guy who has been great in his arena and I would expect him to get an offer in the next few years

Also, damn shame about Bernard pierce. How the hell did he just disappear the way he did...

my best guess is he just wasnt a great reader in the hole - he was a really nice change of pace back who could take it right up the gut but who ultimately looked better than he was because of an awesome and road-grading OL and a beautifully balanced passing attack

it seems lacklustre now, and I know you feel similarly but the Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith duo of that 2012 season and postseason was outrageously good and really complemented each other well - throw in Ray Rice, and Dennis Pitta with Jacoby Jones occasionally there to take the top off and that was a really nice group

you would look back on most of those guys and not think about them in the same way but at that time they could all be considered among the best at their positions respectively in that year

Chris Simms would be a great get to add to an announcing team - he would have to be into it though

Another note on the super bowl, Cary williams, if he was really with the shits, he would’ve lit kaepernick the fuck up at the goal line when he scrambled for that late TD, it would’ve been close enough to be justified and man he could’ve put the shoulder to his waist and really ducked his day up

That was one of the better assembled overall rosters I think we’ve seen in a very long time.

the closest things that roster had to a real star at the time of their careers was ray rice, Suggs came off the Achilles, Ed Reed was no longer himself, Ngata was above average and far from star status by this point, and no matter how you try to sell it boldin was not a star receiver and neither was pitta, Torrey, or jacoby, they were all well above average players who complemented eachother very well and a great OL and run game allowed them to play well in limited sample sizes when called upon.

The drop off from 11 to 12 was real for Ray and Ed, but I think Reed said in an interview he was basically playing the SB on 1 leg.

Flacco was great during that run for sure.. even though he was never a good qb to me, he deserved that contract.. probably wasnt worth it but deserved it.

You are literally the only person I've ever heard say they like him. Since you do I'll just leave it at that. lol
