Who knows... But on the other hand they had to try something different because what we did before obviously didn't work. Harbaugh and Wink redesigned the defense first and one year later they did the same on offense.
I know Zrebiec and other's said we tried to trade up for Lattimore in 2017 but I believe it also could've been for Watson.
i definitely could imagine that, watson has the kind of character the ravens would covet, thank god we didnt though

For me, it's a question of this

If you're going to draft a RB is he really that much better than what you could find in UDFA pool? Esp taking into account our system.

That's why with Dobbins, while he's a very good football player, would you say he's better value in the 2nd than say Gus Edwards was as an UDFA?

Gus Edwards is a legit running back. I also know that we were on the verge of signing lindsay who's a pro bowler and undrafted

Justice hill better than either of those two or any of the running backs in this league? That's why if you go running back in the first 3-4 rounds, he better have something special because there's the elite running backs and then it's more about scheme than talent.
I don't think anybody actually views Gus Edwards as a "legit" RB. He's an NFL RB, but every team in the league has 4-5 guys who are NFL RBs.
32 NFL teams have a back just like Gus Edwards on their roster currently. Same body type, same attributes and skill sets, etc. The undrafted free agent pool has guys like Edwards available right now.

He's a bigger version of Alex Collins. Alex Collins went from being almost a thousand yard back to being unemployed in less than 24 months. Gus Edwards will be out of the league entirely in less than two years.

The price tag difference between a 2nd rounder and an UDFA isn't that much, so its not even really a question of assets.

the first year was kept artificially low which caused the cap hits (by design) to balloon after year 3 - basically creating a situation when he signed where both parties knew they would be back at the negotiating table in year 3 no matter what

the idea i think was that joe and the ravens were basically equal partners at that point because of how important he was because of the position he played and being a franchise qb but it was a poor decision and put the ravens in a bind - couldnt cut him, couldnt let him play out on the deal he was on with those cap hits (those hits wouldnt seem so ridiculous now but obviously the salary cap is a lot higher now), couldnt trade him so literally only had the option to extend

so the 1st contract was so bad it forced us to double-down and give him a 2nd bad contract just because of how the first one was structured
Hah, yep but Ozzie and Steve forgot about Joe Fucking Linta.

I think you may be underrating gus a little bit. I think he’s too valuable as a late game grinder or short yardage guy, if you’re a team who likes to run the ball or stay balanced, Gus is a great RB3, and most teams will carry 3+ RBs, there’s no way that 2 years from now there are 96 backs better than Gus, he’s established himself as a legitimate threat to grind out 4+ YPC by brute force alone.

So everyone was surprised that Stone fell to the 7th round

I'm now asking myself how the hell did Nigel Warrior go undrafted!?!?! I like him better than Stone

I haven’t watched warrior but man I thought Stone was a legit round 3 guy and I stand firm on that after a lot of rewatches. Stone was probably my most studied prospect In the last 2 weeks leading up to the draft. To put it simply, them sound like some big words about Nigel warrior lol

I think he has more potential than Stone. Stone probably has a higher floor but Warrior is the better athlete.

Maybe there should be a resolution to start punishing teams that constantly suck no matter how much draft capital and early picks they have while teams that constantly pick last and have low cap remain relevent get extra picks

kinda like rewarding GM's and Teams for being good at their job.

Okay,

i've watched more JK dobbins than anyone of our rookies now and

- He's high floor but his ceiling? Not much more, and there are two MAIN reasons for this

- I wish he bounced off guys more when tackled
- When he gets stacked he doesn't seem to have that elite power to push himself that extra yard or two after contact. I'm not saying he has to be marshawn lynch but he's not hard to bring down.

just because i wanted to confirm my thoughts on this i went and put on the dobbins tape again - literally saw 10+ instances where he bounces of contact, fights through tackles to push for that extra yard, breaks arm tackles etc. just in the first game

breaking tackles is not his calling card but he has great contact balance and it allows him to get through contact - and on top of that he sets up dbs on the second level so well to make them whiff with the way he cuts - consistently makes the safety miss 1v1

His running style doesn't help him. Shades of Tj Yeldon. Needs to run a bit lower IMO

do yall think harbaugh has always had an infatuation with mobile qbs and always wanted to coach with one?

he came right in and basically implied that the starting job was troy smiths to lose, when troy smith left we went with tyrod as the backup, after tyrod we went a few years bouncing around backups and signed greg roman, then signed rg3 a few years later, and drafted lamar the same year, and all those years with joe it felt like the team NEVER bought in 100% on him and just wanted to build a defense and run game, and then when lamar comes the team is all in on a mobile qb offense like weve never seen before, like harbaugh finally had "his" pieces in place and "his guy" at qb, and he didnt want to coach a straight dropback passing team
definitely an interesting thought.
