interesting. how in the hell did you get banned. What did you do that was remotely ban able.
The things I know I did NOT do:
Profanity
Racist/sexist comments
I don't really recall. I think it was sort of communicated as a "lifetime achievement" award. I think a lot of the posters kept complaining about me always pushing back on their bad opinions and like making them support things, that the mods got fed up with the complaints and just decided to end it.
I guess in some ways they felt like I was personally attacking posters, which I wasn't. I mean I probably called them idiots occasionally, but I thought it was clear they earned it. That coupled with mods like MomGene already being pissed because they were frequently part of my rebuttals probably didn't sit too well.
I do remember the last day she specifically pointed out that I needed to stop referring to people's views as "bad opinions". She said there was no such thing as a bad opinion. That an opinion couldn't be proven right or wrong, and that everybody was entitled to one, blah blah blah. I told her that I thought people that gave opinions, while spending no time researching what they were talking about, having no knowledge of what they speak of, etc., were ignorant, and that their opinions should be viewed as bad by their peers. I think that was the last straw.
In the end, it was probably just the way I treated the mods. They viewed themselves as "above reproach" and thought everything they said or did was gospel. I spent at least one day a week pointing out their hypocrisies, explaining how they misunderstood their own rules, etc. I think they just wanted me gone, which was fine.
If there's one major takeaway I had from my experience on BR.com and other unrelated social media platforms, its that moderators aren't necessarily these extremely wise, wisdom-filled, highly knowledgeable voices of reason. In some cases they are, but in cases like that site, its basically just somebody with more free time who volunteers so that they feel like they can control something in their life. MomGene specifically, I felt, knew very little about Ravens football, and shouldn't be chiming in nearly as much as she did about things she clearly knew nothing about.
Like I know nothing about quilting, so I don't think its appropriate for me to be a forum moderator of a quilting social media page.
