Male empowerment...

To your earlier post I called a Oweh sack on Brown but I'll take the game he had instead.

Side note. I said Averett would play himself out of Baltimore, but MAYBE we work a way to keep him. The truth is he's improved and really started to come on about a season and a half back. Showed improvement and the kind of speed he has makes our DB group equipped to handle every kind of wr. Would love to figure it out somehow even though I know the contracts we have coming up.

We thought wink was exaggerating when he said averett was the 3rd best corner on the team and an all-pro type player...

well through 2 weeks i wouldnt call him an all-pro but he's been a very high level starter and has definitely been the best non-marlon corner on the team (not unexpected but still nice to see it actually happen)

i think there's an opportunity to give him a friendly contract before the season ends that keeps him in town for another couple of years on something manageable for us and some money for him despite his lack of starting experience through his first 4 years so far...

you know the ravens have seen the last few years that even when we're stacked at corner we still seem to need more depth than we keep - they might figure with jimmy on his way out, and with peters and tavon only having a year left on their deals (and tavon might even be a cut candidate) that averett's an ideal guy to keep

but Lamar's deal will get done first

and I think Bozeman's ahead of Averett in the queue too and im assuming they'll extend ricard too (but that deal i dont think affects anything because it wont be that big of a deal)

Averett is playing at a pro bowl level right now and he’s looking like the kinda homegrown player id like to keep. I’m just so torn because I know we can draft corners like a son of a b1tch and while we have peters an hump he will never reach cb2 status without injury, and with a franchise qb under contract you just can’t afford an embarrassment of riches like that.

with the way we play nickel and dime - i could see us cutting tavon and deciding to see if we can't put those savings towards Averett...

especially if we lose deshon as well

as always it will depend on the price

Those are the 4 priorities if you ask me. We know Lamar is getting done and we know Ricard is extremely likely, so really only two question marks.

In Averett's case in particular, there's a clear path to playing time. I think we've all opined that Humphrey should be outside but I don't think the Ravens have an issue at all using him in the slot a lot of the time. It'd be a lot to commit to the secondary but there's absolutely room for the 3 of them with both Jimmy and Tavon heading out the door. Westry is really the only other option and he's nothing more than depth with upside at this point.

tbh marlon's a matchup weapon at this point - you put him on the most dangerous guy on a given down and expect him to erase that threat

and averett's shown that he can align all over the defence too so really only peters that you'd see mostly play exclusively 1 boundary

i think it's likely that deshon's gone although he really does set the tone on this defence from that safety spot

Agreed. There's room to keep them all. It's just a matter of whether or not the money works out.

It's because Orlando essentially quit on this team. I don't think anyone has a problem with him wanting to follow his dream and become a starting LT, but he could have stayed here for the rest of his rookie deal and tried to help us win a championship before going elsewhere. Instead, he decided that he wanted out immediately and put the team in a bad spot.
the worst thing he did was go public on twitter. This definitely brought his trade value down and the front office wasn't pleased.
