I think this tweet inadvertently points out a big issue with parts of our squad. While team speed is important, at it's most basic level success in football boils down to making tackles and breaking tackles, not winning races.

this was kind of a reference to what Daniel Jeremiah said about drafting with Lamar as the QB. The former Raven scout said he would build a track team around him.

But yeah.. we sucked at tackling lol

I think you’re missing the point. Roman is bland as hell with shitty passing concepts. Not only do we have speed, but we have some damn good route runners that we should be scheming open. Roman has shown he’s incapable of doing that.

So is “Romanpologist” a thing now?

In reference to tackling and track stars, I feel that’s a little bit unfair? I don’t know what happened or if it was previously masked but this wasn’t anywhere close to this level of bad in years past. I dare say you need to go back to pre-Wink level of tackling for our tackling to be this bad. It’s like we forgot to tackle in 2021. I feel we were way better than this in 2020. We didn’t lose that many defenders. It was mostly Judon we lost and also Fort to injury along with Wolfe. One of the reasons I feel DL must be a major priority.

This is hilarious and sounds so familiar

bro.. this is wild.

GRo landed in the perfect spot for his next Greg Roman cycle. Good thing we pride ourself in continuity. He can stretch the “people caught on and my plays are getting bland” part of the cycle out until Lamar’s natural play-making instincts and god-given ability is almost all gone.

My hate for Harbs just keeps rising lol.

And I don’t know why people think it’ll get better next year when we were relatively healthy last year and extremely healthy Lamar’s MVP season yet the passing concepts were still trash and so was the play calling. I feel so bad for Lamar and the offense.

My comment wasn’t only referencing bad tackling, but also the inability break tackles and us getting pushed around in general. Just feels we’ve lost the edge in physicality and it would seem in some situations that could be due to overvaluing speed.

I don’t think anyone really believes Roman will improve. There’s just no evidence in his career. They’ve just convinced themselves another year of Roman is better than the alternative….. which at this point is non existent because the list of replacements is minimal. We’re in a tough spot right now for sure. We can either keep the status quo(which honestly is a successful in terms of wining no matter how much we hate it) or take a risk and move on from Roman.

I feel like Wink deserves less of a pass than Roman this year for injuries. Romans strength is running and he lost all his top RBs outside of Lamar before the season started.

I know you don’t cheer for injuries, but I’d like to see the Bengals lose Chase, Higgins and Boyd before the season starts next season, see how their fans would like it, Burrow would finally have to play with below average talent for once in his life.

why would Roman get less of a pass. We had more injuries on defense than offense and we only had 1 defensive starter (Clark) remaining at the end of the season.

He had more around longer, I’ll admit losing Peters right off the bat and never having Wolfe was big, I just think the fact that our pass defense was dead last wire to wire should be concerning injuries aside.

Exactly, and there were some upset because he wasn’t blitzing on every down. Lol. Wink definitely gets a mulligan this year. Roman, I’m not so sure. This offense has regressed since 2019. I’m just not sure whether to blame Roman entirely, or give him some leeway because of the injuries and a pandemic.

Given the circumstances I’m not sure how anyone could form an objective opinion concerning effectiveness of coaches this year. I will say though it was pretty amazing they did as well as they did, lesser teams would have folded and given up. We were competitive in pretty much every game to the end with what eventually amounted to a practice squad defense.

Hard to believe Dak gets on the podium and blames the ref. Like don't you know the ref has to place the ball before the play starts?

Awful coaching and terrible attempt to blame shift after a poor performance. Calling that play is dumb and the ref is probably just as shocked at what he's witnessed at the moment.

Side note would love to have Mayock brought in to our scouting/draft department in some role. Nothing to back it except what how I've seen him grade talent that makes me believe Gruden was pulling the trigger on these picks.
