2022 General Draft Thoughts

Davesta

Ravens Ring of Honor
Oh baby!!!!!!!! It's happening!

Has anyone ever traded up BEFORE the actual draft though? Like more often than not it has to happen during the draft I would think lol

I think teams call before the draft to set up the parameters. Like “if our guy gets to your spot, this is what we’ll offer.”

This. Teams know the parameters of the cost before the draft even starts. I’m sure they’ve called every single team from 6 and back just for due diligence.

Apparently we made calls about trading up.. the dream is alive

i mean last time we were drafting in this range we moved up 1 spot to grab haloti ngata
maybe in a year when prices to go up are maybe depreciated, we make a move...

i just really hope that if we do it's not much capital we give up - id hate to pick less than 4 times on day 2 but ultimately id get over it... especially if we trade back later in the draft to acquire some extra picks back in a deep draft

i would totally get it though if that's the strategy - there's a big drop-off in the top 10 and then there's a ton of depth in the draft - maybe make sure you get a premium talent with that 1st pick and then trade down with later picks to go ham on day 3

would not be totally against it if the price is reasonable and we get a premium guy like KT

oh 100% - this isnt about trading up before the draft starts - this is teams setting their strategy and gauging what it might take to go up and get a guy they like if he's available and finding out which teams might be amenable to a trade and some idea of what it might cost

which is why when the reports the other day were about not many teams looking to trade into the top half of the draft i just didnt really worry about it because teams arent looking to trade up right now and lo and behold the trade up interest is only starting to pique now

Sauce, Stingley, or KT are worth it

I love seeing everyone add love to KT. He has been my favorite guy for the last 2 years after watching him kill the Huskys in person. I can't believe we might actually have a shot at him!!!

Indeed, don' get me wrong I love my day 2 picks, but if we can get my guy KT or yours in Stingley, we are talking about All pro game changer types of players at the expense of maybe a 30% chance of a guy ever starting.

We will never ever be drafting this low again. doubled unlikely that prospects like KT or stingley fall our range ever again. lets pull that damn trigger!

that last point is exactly the thing

EDC when asked in 2020 if he'd ever trade up to get a guy literally straight up said he'd do it for chase young if he fell into range but he's not going to lol

we're never in range to get one of these type of guys - so the one time we're here, we really want to make sure we get out of this draft with a blue-chip dude if we can - that would be the rationale that i think EDC would justify it with - he's said so many times that the draft is a luck driven process, and that's definitely true - but you have to trust your grades too

BRB.. gotta check out some Wilson highlights

i mean id prefer a different receiver if we had to take one (Drake London's my top guy at WR this year lol)
but if we did add wilson, his combination of well-coached and sparky route-running ability as well as crazy YAC ability is something we've not had on the roster probably ever and would be a great complement to the 2 guys we already have - would instantly slot into the Z/slot which would get him away from press which is where he struggled at times in college

All this KT talk has got me hyped…..Going to be crushed when he comes off the board at 4 or 5 lol

What about Justyn Ross with 76. Know he had the spine issue but the kid can play. Doesn’t seem to mind blocking either

he's a massive question mark - didnt look anywhere near as explosive after the injury and have no idea whether he'll ever get any of that back - add onto that he played in clemson's stupid offensive system and all ive got about him is questions really and the awful testing numbers he put out kinda just proved that everything you saw coming off the issue is real

im not touching him until day 3 at the earliest - not even sure id draft him

less than 4 times on day 2? We currently have 3 picks.

I'm getting that feeling that we're not going to be able to trade up for a corner or premier edge. That means look to trade back, but if we can't and have to stay pat I think we're squarely looking at:

McDuffie
Booth
Davis
Lloyd
Penning
At which point I’m stomping on the table for Jordan Davis
