Fuckin boomers. He hasn’t mastered the art of football speak, talking to coaches etc. in typical rookie ways, saying all the cliche shit that prospects always do, instead he’s giving game, real life perspective and wanting to make the most of his opportunities, being calculated, well thought out, and level headed in all of his answers, and it gives off a vibe of supreme confidence and independence, old school folks are threatened by these types.Throughout the process he’s been introspective and completely comfortable in his own skin and some old-school types seem to have let that get under their skin and have become convinced that it means he doesn’t love football enough when really all it means is he’s not sweating the big stuff
Yeah I don't at all deny that if they both pan out Stingley will have the higher upside. Both are great prospects. I feel like it is somewhat similar to the Hutch Walker situation. In both cases I want the Sauce/Hutch version over the Stingley/Walker version. But that's just me and I def understand the competing opinion.
Eh, I think health at corner could do just as much for this one year as drafting one high, if you’re in win now mode and tight against the cap, maybe trust your highest paid defenders to stay healthy, risky proposition but hey that’s the nfl. We have Calais Campbell and Justin madubuike and Michael pierce and that’s it, we barely have starters, we don’t have depth, a difference maker there is imperative.
Different strokes though, I feel you. If we’re talking sting or sauce then I’m with you, I just don’t see mcduffie as that guy

I mean to be fair, poetry is super gayit's like when some guys seemed to panic about the fact that myles garrett liked poetry and wondered if he'd be aggressive enough on the field to set the edge lol
Exactly how I feel but I guess I’m taking the bait that we’re super high on penning. And that’s why I’m hell bent on taking hamilton, Davis, or JJ, those are the 3 IMMEDIATE contributors that likely bring big time difference making contributions in year 1 and beyond that they change the long term dynamic of our team building. If we are indeed not trading up for a faller if it happens, then we either need one of those guys at 14 or trade backwe need an immediate difference maker - i dont really care what position they play at this point... but i think that's why im less inclined to believe we're in on tackles in R1 just because what kind of impact does that guy have vs an EDGE or a CB or a DT or even a LB who can step in and play 70%+ snaps at a key position when a tackle might end up having to play guard

Though I will say… I’m warming up to mcduffie.
That’s a silly approach imo, Marcus Williams is the free and hamilton is the strong, run more zone with our safeties, let the guys make plays. I just hate the thought of passing on supreme talents who can massively benefit the team because of what they CANT do, rather than taking them because of what they can doi dont think hamilton's that guy for the ravens - stylistically he just doesnt really fit with marcus williams on the team now and unfortunately he doesnt offer man cover skills the way that a lot of shorter modern college safeties do

also the stuff about having the fallback player you feel good about, even if they arent the guy you want and the haloti ngata year when the fallback got taken top 10
He said the fall back guy was Whitner. So hold up, that's the 2006 Draft. The player we originally wanted was taken in the Top 10 AND the fall back guy was also taken in the Top 10? So Suggs and Ngata were guys drafted after the players they originally wanted were off the board. We know about Suggs being a product of the whole trade debacle when we tried getting Leftwhich, but I'm quite curious who we wanted in 2006 and who the fall back player was.
2006 NFL Draft Top 10:
1. Mario Williams DE
2. Reggie Bush RB
3. Vince Young QB
4. D'Brickashaw Ferguson OT
5. AJ Hawk LB
6. Vernon Davis TE
7. Michael Huff S
8. Donte Whitner
9. Ernie Sims LB
10. Matt Leinart QB
I have to think it was Huff and Whitner considering we drafted Dawan Landry in the fourth round that same draft. We were set at LB with Ray & Bart, we just got Steve McNair so we weren't looking for a QB. JO was still going strong at Left Tackle and we had Todd Heap so didn't need Vernon Davis.
