so what went wrong with the passing offence in the playoffs then?
someone's gonna have to explain in specifics...

ignoring 2018 because we didnt have a passing offence at all

2019 receiver drops in big spots, a couple of missed 4th down conversions and lamar making a couple of crucial mistakes - but that offence still put up over 500yds... 345 yds of which were through the air

2020 the weather prevented both teams from passing in that bills game and the OL buckled in the same way it had the whole end of that season... and we won the titans game

so what specifically about the playoffs is it that was making the offence not work?
Our passing game isnt consistent..

I don't mind Dareus and at this point we're looking for anyone who doesn't feel like a hostage at wr.

2 separate things said. One was I want to see the passing work in the playoffs. The direct quote was about his offense in general. The 2019 Titans game was empty yards that resulted in all of 12 points I think. I won't blame the rookie playoff game on Roman. Teams seem to figure out or run game. Maybe that's OL maybe it's scheme but we also couldn't move the ball for shit against the Titans on the ground. The 2nd time we played the Titans I could easily make a case that was just a great defensive performance. There's no specific game I can say oh yeah, we were in a rhythm. In none of these playoff games can we say the offense carried their weight either.

You're not changing my mind He's a bum in my eyes until he proves me wrong.
I agree but some of that blame goes to lamar also..

so what went wrong
dont just say the passing hasnt worked - tell me what you think is actually going wrong

because i can point to drops and lamar making crucial mistakes at unfortunate moments in the 2019 titans game

i can point to the OL injuries in 2020 to explain the pivot back to a run-first offence (that wasnt the case to begin 2020) and then the weather as well as those OL injuries which caused the anaemic passing game in the bills game (but notice that the josh allen buffalo bills offence similarly did fuck all in that game too)

nothing that went wrong in those 2 losses was schematic - it was all execution...

so point to me, where in those playoff games, greg roman's passing game went wrong and ill have that conversation

but i would point to that as being more about execution and personnel than it is about scheme
the 2021 passing offence was pretty successful despite missing lamar for 5 games

The passing game to me is only getting better due to staff additions. Yes execution has also been a problem at times but I don't fuck with Roman. The best OL we had in 19 got shut down. Our running game vanishes which is supposed to be his expertise. Twice in 2020 against teams that aren't stout against the run. And don't give me Lamar because plenty of those yards are on broken plays. There is not one good offensive performance we can point to in the playoffs.

I wanted to write a post on how the Ravens have been drafting on day 2, since Eric DeCosta has taken over as GM. I think we can universally say that we have definitely improved our drafting on day two.

2019:
Day 2 didn't start off well for Eric DeCosta's first draft. He didn't have a 2nd round pick after using in in 2018 as part of the draft capital to trade up into the 1st round and select Lamar Jackson. Both Jalen Ferguson and Miles Boykin busted.

2020:
Day 2 in 2020 was much better. We traded Hayden Hurst for a 2nd round pick and used that selection to draft J.K. Dobbins, who is already the starter and a very good one at that. On day 3 we were able to land Justin Madubuike who has a bright future. Devin Duvernay has played in the offense and i wouldn't call him a bust, but he hasn't come along as quickly as a 3rd rounder could have. Malik Harris seems to be a bust, but this season we will know for sure.

2021:
Day 2: The 2nd round pick from 2021 was used to trade up into the first round with KC and select Odafe Oweh. In the 3rd round we selected Ben Cleveland and Brandon Stephens. Brandon Stephens had a lot of playing time and seemed to progress nicely in the latter part of the season, once Elliott went down and he assumed the role. It's too soon to evaluate Ben Cleveland.

2022:
Way too soon to evaluate, but both Ojabo and Jones could be high level starters for a very long time.

We didn't make playoffs last year so nothing to judge. I agreed the team not executing at points. Where is the run game in the post season? My first post said we need to have a successful passing game in the playoffs. The only team that's made runs without a strong passing game was the Niners. The next post you quoted I said his offenses aren't producing. We can't even get consistency from what's supposed to be his strength from play design. There was only one game Lamar wasn't the leading rusher and that's probably only because he was injured. THIS is partly why I want him gone.

Cause his little ass is sick of blocking. Honestly, I get it. He's not going to get the numbers here as he will in AZ and he gets to be the #1 with D Hop out. He'll play in an air raid his contract year and will likely earn a huge payday. Wish him the best. He could have gone about this much differently, but because of his professionalism, we were able to recoup a 1st.
I kept this to myself back then because it could've been much ado about nothing, but in 2019, I remembered stumbling on his Hollywood's website and I noticed that he posted highlights of himself especially against the Cardinals in week 2. Go figure, right? Full circle.

Either way, the moment I saw that, I realized right then he was one of those receivers. Understandable. But how quickly I reminded myself that he's a Brown. So if he wasn't getting his targets/catches, I figured he'd have one foot out of the door. It kinda looked like his demeanor changed in the final 6 games that Huntley was in. I still didn't see this trade coming. But hindsight is 20/20 tho.

nice breakdown from All 22 Films on Devin Duvernay

i dont find this breakdown particularly compelling

- it talks about catch-rate (and duvernay does have good hands) but his catch-rate should be that high given the amount of receptions he has that are basically just hand-offs
- it talks about speed and vertical threat and i just dont see that on the tape - maybe one nice play against the broncos
- he talks about how he runs a limited route-tree but that that's just because that's all he was asked to run and that there's no reason we can't open up his route tree and this is where i fundamentally differ... part of the reason why duvernay isnt asked to run a diverse route-tree is because he's too stiff and laterally challenged with his change of direction and stop-start to be able to do that stuff

i just dont find the argument that he can/will be catching 50-60 balls this year particularly persuasive

i dont think he's a "boykin" type guy where he's just taking up a roster spot because he does have value both as an all-pro returner, in the short-game and winning off the limited routes he's asked to run right now - i just dont find it credible to imagine that his role will expand from what it was before... the only thing i do find credible is that he might get more of the screen production that we threw to hollywood

100% agree here. It sucks being a Duvernay hater but the guy has yet to prove almost anything as a receiver

I agree, there is no way he will be a 50-60 catch guy, but I could see him getting 500 yards on 40 catches, with more targets. I believe Proche could also double or even more than double his production this season

i love being positive - but present me with reasons to be lol - just showed a bunch of jet sweeps and returns with like 4 other kinds of routes in the whole video
Exactly!!! The thing I don't like most about Duvernay is that he might be taken snaps away from the other 2. I don't need to go through it again but I said from the year they were drafted Proche was better than Duv and I had a RD2 grade on Tylan. I'm VERY excited about Tylan. I just don't want to see Duv out there too much when these other guys could be out there

yes, I do agree that Tylan Wallace has the highest ceiling of the three and Proche should be a very good slot wr in this offense, as long as he gets his opportunities.
