Dumb question but, is that feasible for us? I mean franchising Lamar. Or do you we possibly think about trading him?
Financially, its feasible. I don't think the FO is anywhere near the position of thinking about moving on from him. I think that'll require a significant injury this year.
Franchise tag is an option, and they can afford it. It'll just really hamstring some things.
Basically if things don't go well on offense and Lamar starts griping about getting more receiver help, Oline, etc., and he wants to play on the tag, he'll be sharing a lot of the blame for when it doesn't happen.
There are some fairly straight forward cut candidates next year also.
I think Boyle is firmly on the chopping block after this season, especially with his injury history and very high cap hit.
Stanley would be a huge ? if he manages to not make it back this year. Becomes financially feasible to move on after this season
Campbell I would suspect would consider retirement, and he's on the books for nearly $9M cap hit next year, of which we could save a lot of that
Gus Edwards would be somebody we may not opt to keep if he can't recover from injury well
If somebody like Faalele impresses enough to somehow win the starting RT job, or even if the Ravens wish to go that direction, Morgan Moses may become expendable.
Wolfe and Clark also both would have the "look" of guys who may not be Ravens beyond this year.
If we were to move on from Boyle, Campbell, Wolfe and Clark alone, which I think all would be likely at this point, you're talking like $22M in cap savings right there.
And that would largely be almost all spendable. But if you can manage to get Lamar on a cap hit in the range of like $20-25M, then your FA period can be very lucrative. There's quite literally nobody you couldn't sign.
