The Awful, The Run Defence and The Offence

And teams don’t even respect the idea of a deep game against Huntley. They’re content to sit 10-15 yards back at most because he’s not pumping the ball deep with velocity. The Steelers should have had 3-4 picks tonight because the ball was just floating with any attempt at putting some distance on the ball. 20-25 yard opportunities were coming up 5 yards short when he was on the run. Arm talent just isn’t there
I hope for his careers sake that he's playing injured on that shoulder. Because otherwise, he's out of a job next year

I’d feel better for him if the decision making was there but he’s also playing with 0 confidence. Think he’ll get a shot somewhere but he might need a change of scenery.

Also KK in Arizona has been BLASTED for how his team starts strong and falls apart at the end of the season. Our team has been like that for 4 years where it falls off the rails earlier and earlier with each passing year.

Not a good look for Harbaugh too

And it’s sad because I feel like we have some really good positional coaches (Joe D, Weaver, etc.) but the game planning and adjustment aspects on both sides have just been brutal

on defence idk if it's necessarily the structure of philosophy of it so much as the playcalling of MM
as a young guy with only 1 year of playcalling experience and it was in college, it's maybe not unexpected that there would be some growing pains which is why, as disappointed as ive been with him this year, im not all out on him at all

but i do wonder if an Anthony Weaver ran defence might have held together better - also just get the sense that the players would do anything for him (even those not in his position group)

and i agree generally, i think we've got some pretty great positional coaches
- on defence, Weaver, Hewitt, Orr and D'Anton Lynn have been great
i do wonder if the loss of drew wilkins (who heavily advocated for picking Oweh) has been a part of Oweh's regression...
- on offence, Dubb was maybe the most excited i've ever been about a non-coordinator coaching hire, Joe D's obviously been great since he took over, tough to tell how good Urban is but Harbs has frequently praised him and thinks incredibly highly of him (as we saw in the wired episode when we beat the Steelers a month ago)

but a general shakeup might be needed

As many of you know, I’m not really a blame the coaches type of guy, but we’ve reached a breaking point to some extent. Weirdly less worried about the D right now, but wouldn’t put it by Harbaugh to make sweeping changes on both sides of the ball. Feels like we need philosophical changes more than just name and face changes.
I dnt see a problem with our D as much. I mean we have no pass rushers.. nothing any D coordinator can do about that. Kenny made a lot of passes on broken plays.

I think I’m less concerned with the D because we’ve shown time and time again that we can be a force, but somehow that goes out the window when it matters most. Good news is that’s correctable. Concerned of course that it hasn’t been corrected yet, but it’s not like the D as a whole has been putrid all year. They’ve played really well at times so I wouldn’t rush to break that down. Easy to forget it’s still a new system with a bunch of new faces as well.

The thing is, if we peons can see that Huntley has a potato of an arm why not a coordinator making millions? Why not design plays where he doest have to throw deep. Put AB against the Bengals atleast he can push the ball down field without making it look like it's on slow motion.

I’d argue that’s how the plays are designed. There’s not really an effort to go deep until we absolutely need to. But teams are just sitting on that short shit because they know that’s all we’ve got. Also doesn’t help that Huntley is a true one read QB. If that read isn’t there, he’s running or trying to make a throw on the run which has been disastrous.

Well this is refreshing. Some accountability finally coming from Harbaugh
Is it accountability or lip service? Accountability should mean changes are going to happen.

Also, have the Ravens ever had an actual game plan since Harbaugh became HC, other than just "do what we always do"?

I mean, have the Ravens ever adjusted their approach for a specific opponent, or given them something different from what was expected?

All I want right now is to play the Bengals in the playoffs. This team is not winning another game, but if we can somehow pull off one crazy lucky game and knock out Burrow and the Bengals. That would be my Super Bowl this season. I absolutely hate the Bengals and the Titans and of course the Colts. I could careless about playing Jacksonville in the playoffs. I want a chance to possibly send the Bengals packing.

They made the effort to get younger and fresh minds in at a lot of the positional openings before the years and even took that leap with MM at DC. Still think he should get another shot because I think that’s how we should be trending right now. But still wouldn’t shock me if this is a cleaned house almost of coaches. Gotta do something because what we’re doing isn’t working.

i just think that the only situation where we clean house is if Harbs moves on

i could see him do a thorough clean out of the offensive side of the ball though - a new OC from outside the building might mean a complete philosophical and cultural shift that may not fit well with who's in the building already

i think someone like Joe D and Dubb are probably unaffected by a shakeup like that but other guys might not be and someone like Urban might be unfortunate to find themselves fired just because we're changing approach

the other thing worth noting is that this initial struggle that MM is having in year 1 happened similarly with the special teams unit when chris horton took over, and now that unit is humming again as a perennially elite unit - i get that it's different because it's special teams but i wouldnt be surprised if MM's year 2 and beyond follow a similar pattern

I made that same note in another post regarding it being year 1 on D. Still concerned of course but not ready to throw in the towel. But still not entirely convinced they’re safe depending on how the rest of the season plays out.

Trash, trash, trash! Playoffs or not, there is nothing to believe in with this team; absolutely nothing!

Lol by going deep I mean past 10 yards lol with his arm. Nah, I get what you're saying. It's just frustrating because Roman doesn't make adjustments either.

I feel this game may have been the tipping point. It should have been waaayyyyy wayyyy long ago but you can clearly see he's defeated. Big changes are definitely going to happen. Maybe not tomorrow but in the offseason.
I don't think we'll have to wait for the offseason, you could be right but this wasn't the usual Harbaugh we see after a loss like you said too. He knows something needs to change, and I think he's not going to wait until the offseason. I don't know of a head coach who fired coordinators just a week or so out of the playoffs but tonight feels different. I think we'll get some news in the afternoon of someone being let go. Maybe it's Macdonald, but we can build off this season with the defense and another year with Macdonald. Given the offensive struggles, it could very well be Roman gone with either Urban or Martin taking over as OC for the rest of the season.
