The Clunky, The Win and The Injuries... Again

The defense showed us a lot of the things we've been hoping for in the off-season.

Queen and Roquan maintained their high level play.
Darby was surprisingly good for his first game back from an ACL and Stephens was nowhere near as bad as I feared.
Oweh looked like he's taken a step forward, Madu got consistent pressure and Clowney was good.

The caveat is Houston's injured O LIne made the pass rush look better and gave Stroud less time to pick on our corners. We probably need to see it next week before we can fully relax.

There was one play when he threw across his body and I swear he had green if he took off and ran. He needs to just make the correct read and not force anything

That was one of Lamar's worst games, (OBJ throw aside) so I'm not going to argue

This is nothing new for Lamar, though.

He's very determined to be a pocket passer, almost to a fault. He's middle of the pack in scrambles and always looks for the pass, even if he has an opportunity for the rushing first down.

This isn't anything earth shattering or bad, though.

Think about what you'd rather do- turn the cormer and try to sack a Lamar in the pocket OR turn the corner and chase down Lamar as he breaks contain and takes off scrambling.

He's saying what every defender would think- Lamar is much easier to tackle if he's not taking off and running. Of course it makes their jobs easier if Lamar isn't scrambling.

It's year six- he's not changing who he is at any point. In fact, I'd expect him to run even LESS now than in years past.

Lamar is working on his game. Put him in a situation where the games on the line and he’ll take that pickup, but in a game where we’re kinda coasting, get your reps

We've heard reports (not confirmed) that Stanley has a non serious knee and Marcus Williams seems to think his pec isn't season ending bad. The one we have zero clue on is Linderbaum, but he was walking just fine on his own. People have pointed out that you can walk with a torn ACL, and that's true, but if that was the fear, I think we'd have known by now.
