Week 8: Lamar, Our Hands, and The Coaching

We've gone from lowest dime to most dime in the NFl o
Why change something that worked last year when we were the NO 1 D in the NFL.

So stupid.

Its like the new boss coming into the corporation that's extremely profitable and making changes that don't work
just becasue he's the new sheriff in town.

That's what Orr has done and Harbs allowed it to happen. Harbs is even more at fault than Orr.

Here are the players lost stats this year :
Clowney -only 1 sack so far
Darby- 0 picks 5 passes defended
Stone-1 interception 2 passes defended
Queen !!!!!!!!!!!!! - O sacks,O interceptions. Steeler fans hate him

Not impressed

This is cool but all these guys are still losses . I dont know if the ravens really replaced Clowney, I dont know if they really replaced Darby, I don't know if that really replaced Stone and the same can be said for Queen.

Nah. I think the issue is that Orr does not have a capacity to run Mike's stuff and the ability to pass all the nuance to players, especially in game adjustments. He had to change something to what he is more or less comfortable with but the communication issues are still present, obviously.

Alright Marcus text back from my guy... he said to take this one with a slight grain of salt because they're trying to keep it hush-hush so details may not be 100%, but decision was made on Monday to start limiting his snaps. He was informed Tuesday and had a little bit of a blow up. Original intent was to make him inactive this week, but the attrition at DB as a whole led to him still getting to dress as an emergency option. Sounds like it was heat of the moment and they've already worked to squash the issue, but they weren't letting it slide. Just emotion coming out and having to pay the price.

The ultimate unconfirmed piece is that the DB rooms have had it out a few times this year already. A lot of frustration with guys blowing their coverages. He gets the sense that those guys just don't trust each other right now and it's causing strain and exacerbating the problem even more. The one thing he can confirm is that some (not all) of those dudes have been coming in on their off time to put in the work and try to get it fixed. I'd imagine some of the strain is that it's only some and not all of those guys putting in the work, but that's me injecting my own opinion.
That makes sense. I said this in another post but the trust thing is what I expected and thought but it's weird since these guys are mostly the same except Wiggins. He's really the only new addition. Oh, and Eddie Jackson

He's going to dig deeper, but I shared some of what I'd speculate based on what he said and he said I might not be perfect, but I'm on the right track.

Opinion I expressed is these guys were so dominant last year that they thought they could just waltz in and do the same thing again this year. Turns out, that's not the case and they've been struggling to find that mojo together. I think someone posted a Jack Settleman tweet earlier about the feeling in the locker room being that it's not on Orr, and he said there's probably a bit more truth to that than people think.

One final thing he expressed that I left out is that they feel they have the pieces in the secondary - they just need to come together. Pass rush is by far their biggest concern from a personnel perspective.

More to come (hopefully).

I don't know alot about football but it's crazy how the dime coverage has been somewhat of a negative. I remember back in the Dean Pees days the dime package was considered dope scheme to use especially when you could use a safety in the linebacker position to cover tight ends. I think that's what Dean Pees used to do with Anthony Levine but could be wrong .

That's how I see it, too. I'm personally less worried about the secondary. If Marlon Humphrey, Nate Wiggins, Brandon Stephens, Kyle Hamilton, Arthur Maulet aren't good enough then that's a problem. That should be a top-10 secondary at worst. Pass rush is a problem. Oweh is OK but need someone opposite of him. That's why I would definitely trade for Crosby or some other elite dude and pay that price for them without little thought.

Exactly their thoughts. I don’t think they were expecting S to be such an issue, but I also don’t think they think adding another guy back there is going to solve the problem. They’re already working on getting it fixed. Adding a new face to the pile doesn’t help.

I have heard that they love Ar’Darius and he may be the guy going forward at S. They’ve need to rebuild his reps back there since he’s been much more sCB in the last 2-3 years.

I think Edge and DT are two positions that wouldn’t shock me if we traded to acquire those. It’s not just because of the recent injuries but also pressure and to spell Nnamdi. I’d consider getting Calais again if we could.

On this whole thread, I'd assume there's at least a chance the secondary can improve. I doubt that pass rush can though without outside help. Those guys really just are who they are.

Adisa will be a nonfactor.
Tavius is a wasted pass rush rep.
Ojabo is healthy scratching.
Oweh is who he is and we know what that will be.
KVN is streaky.

I’ll continue to say that we have a slate of good to play guys. Oweh and KVN are good Edge2 guys, but they’re forced to be “the guys” here. If I’m swinging at edge, I’m getting a guy that can be the guy, because adding another similar to guy to what we already have just doesn’t move the needle for me.

That's the problem is there are so many talented players on this defense. In theory, they have the capability to figure it out. But it won't be giving up free 12 yard passes every play with the nearest corner being 7 yards away from the receiver. It's so malpractice it really feels like the Ravens defense is playing with 7 players instead of 11. The media has been talking about how awful the Bengals defense has been for Joe Burrow... The Ravens defense has given up a higher PPG and yards that Cincy. Lamar, Henry, and Flowers are keeping this team afloat but it can't last a season.

Real talk here because I agree with this but are you willing to pay 2 1st round picks? I have no problem paying a 2025 1st but not a 2026 too

I have to correct an earlier post I made. When talking about the futility of the secondary not securing interceptions, I meant to say Eddie Jackson and not Ar'Darius Washington. My bad.
