Look at the results of the Rooney rule, it’s purely virtue signaling and clearly doesn’t have any effect on hires.
If minorities are being shunned out of positions for being a minority, well that’s awful and there’s no place for it and whoever is making that call should be investigated and/or face consequences, but I can’t see many instances where that would be the case, sad truth is the NFL is in America where white people still make up the majority, therefore they are most likely to over represent in just about every census at any profession.
anyone with a set of eyes can see that the Rooney rule is only for image and nothing else.
I’m seeing a lot of BLATANT virtue signaling on these boards in regards to minority coaching hires and my god is it cringe. Oh we need to be better, oh we need to fix this, bla bla. There’s more white coaches applying, more white guys who came from coaching families, more white guys who jumped straight into coaching at a very young age because they weren’t pro or even college athletes, etc. can we stop acting like this is some civil rights tragedy happening? Brian Flores was a victim of one dickhead team owner, Eric Bieniemy has been known to be a head case for a very long time now, Anthony weaver hasn’t shown the stuff yet because he failed as a playcaller, scheelhaase doesn’t have playcall experience and will get that this year and probably land a job next offseason as a result, who else was really on the circuit?
I’m absolutely not one to go online trying to own the libs, I’m pretty liberal myself, I’m all for equal representation and I love people from all backgrounds, like truly I do, I acknowledge and respect our differences and also acknowledge the road we took to get here as far as race relations go, I’ve spent countless hours educating myself on pre and post-civil rights era oppression of minorities, and I empathize with those affected by it. But this? Give me a fucking break. When a black coach is highly qualified and wins the job, that’s why he won it, not because of the Rooney rule, and when a highly qualified white coach wins a job, odds are extremely high that it’s not racism.
That said, the Steelers hiring Mike McCarthy over Nate Scheelhaase is… certainly a decision, that only they would make, which is odd considering Mike Tomlin was their last HC.
