Report: NFL to consider making PI reviewable
8369.jpg

The Washington Post's Mark Maske reports the NFL's competition committee will "give consideration" to making pass interference calls reviewable.

Several coaches including Sean Payton, whose team was on the receiving end of a horrific and game-changing non-call on Sunday, have been in favor of making pass interference reviewable, and it sounds like there is a possibility they will get their wish. "It will be discussed at length along with additional fouls that coaches feel should be subject to review," a source told Maske. A more comprehensive and streamlined review system could help, but the underlying issue is a serious refereeing problem which needs to be addressed.

I love seeing Mike Thomas complain about the non call all over social media.

Maybe don’t get held to 36 receiving yards bud

@JO_75

Looks like drama isn't for just one NFL Pennsylvania team, but for TWO NFL Pennsylvania teams. Seems that there's a report out there where several unnamed Eagles players described Wentz as "selfish" and "egotistical." However, a number of Eagles players including Ertz, Cox, Brandon Brooks, and Lane Johnson have basically refuted such claims.

not sure what to believe, but I hate the Eagles and their fans, so I'm hoping the drama is real. Don't Fly Like an Eagle....

Belichick has longed said everything needs to be reviewable. The Saints were robbed but of that's what it takes to make it reviewable and end ticky tacky PI calls, then in the end it was worth it.

You know it may slow up the game but the atrocious calls/noncalls are fn ridiculous and a lot of times decides the outcomes of games. At worst at least make it challengeable.

It’s not going to slow the game down much more unless the refs are consistently getting the calls wrong - this isn’t about giving coaches more challenges but opening up what they can challenge

If it slows the game down it means more plays are being challenged and likely challenged correctly which means the issue isn’t the challenges but the refereeing

Oh I wouldn't give them more challenges just more things they could challenge.

I'm going a little off track here but these spot fouls really bother me especially on tickytack calls. Only blatant fouls should be a spot penalty and yes I would leave this up to the discretion of the ref even tho it would probally open up another can of worms. Make it a 10 yd automatic 1st. Double the amount of a holding call. Pass interference that isn't called should also be challengeable. That noncall really screwed over the Saints.

Well, bastards can take one commercial off per challenge to save time. They won't go broke.

Interesting fact about Sean McVay.

A couple years ago when he was OC for the Skins and Josh Norman was in his first year for them, he would ask Norman what he did and other teams cornerbacks do to shut down Desean Jackson. Once he told them, he adjusted what Jackson was doing and burned not only Norman in practice, but opposing cbs, He also would go to the defensive meetings because he wanted to be involved in their game plan. He wanted to understand the ins and outs.

When he was first hired by the Rams I heard he was involved in the defensive meetings as well. He wanted to understand everything that was going on.

This is why McVay is going to be a success for a very long time.

Every offensive coach should be an expert on defense. Makes the job a lot easier.

Exactly - if you ever needed more evidence just look how effectively romo calls out other teams offences on the broadcast live - think how much more effective some defensive coaches would be if they were in the offensive room understanding how offences would try and manipulate them

Likewise imagine how good a guy like romo would be (if he was a coach) if he had the same access to defensive game plans that he does now as a commentator

Honestly wouldn't be surprised if he gets calls to interview as a Head Coach if he keeps doing an amazing job as a Broadcaster. For him to be that knowledgeable and no team takes a chance on it, what do we have 2 almost 3 years now of film of Romo predicting plays before hand?

The problem in that sense is that he’d be a great offensive/defensive analyst and maybe even a great offensive playcaller but he has zero coaching experience so would have to start as an analyst/assistant and he’s already the number 1 cbs broadcasting talent and probably the best in the nfl after only 2 years - he’s getting paid a ton of money to do something he’s already maybe the best in the business at - no way he should move away

Gruden’s a different situation because he was always a coach before with major HC credentials too
